CAPTAIN RAMON R. OWENS WAS BORN ON MAY 29, 1934 IN BISMARK, NORTH DAKOTA. HE IS A RESIDENT OF PASCO, WASHINGTON WHERE HE ENLISTED IN THE NAVY IN 1953. HE ATTENDED THE NAVY PREPARATORY SCHOOL AT BAINBRIDGE, MARYLAND AND ENTERED THE UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY FROM THERE IN 1954. , AFTER GRADUATION AND COMMISSIONING IN JUNE 1958, HIS FIRST ASSIGNMENT WAS TO USS PRICHETT IDD-5611 AS DAMAGE CONTROL ASSISTANT AND MAIN PROPULSION ASSIS- TANT. IN AUGUST 1960 HE WAS REASSIGNED TO THE COMMISSIONING CREW OF USS KING QDLG-105 AND SERVED AS MAIN PROPULSION ASSISTANT AND ENGINEER OFFICER. IN AUGUST 1963, CAPTAIN OWENS WAS SELECTED FOR THE NUCLEAR POWER PRO- GRAM AND AFTER A YEAR OF TRAINING WAS ASSIGNED AS THE MAIN PROPULSION ASSIS- 4 Y TANT IN THE COMMISSIONING CREW OF THE USS TRUXTON QCGN-352. HE STAYED IN THAT BILLET UNTIL DECEMBER 1967. HE THEN BEGAN A THREE YEAR COURSE OF STUDIES AT THE UNITED STATES NAVAL POST GRADUATE SCHOOL IN MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA. HE GRADUATED WITH DISTINCTION AND RECEIVED MASTER OF SCIENCE AND ENGIN- EER'S DEGREES IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING IN MARCH 1971. A IN JUNE 1971, AFTER A THREE YEAR ABSENCE, CAPTAIN OWENS WAS AGAIN ASSIGNED TO THE USS TRUXTON, THIS TIME AS EXECUTIVE OFFICER, UNTIL OCTOBER 1973. HE REPORTED TO USS HEPBURN IFF-10553 IN DECEMBER 1973 AND SERVED AS COMMANDING OFFICER UNTIL JUNE 1975. HIS MOST RECENT DUTY, FROM SEPTEMBER 1975 TO JUNE 1978, WAS A REACTOR OFFICER IN THE COMMISSIONING CREW OF THE USS EISENHOWER QCVN-681. CAPTAIN OWENS' PERSONAL DECORATION INCLUDE THE BRONZE STAR AND NAVY COMMENDATION MEDALS. CAPTAIN OWENS IS MARRIED TO THE FORMER BARBARA ANN HAEBERLINE OF PASCO, WA- SHINGTON. THEY HAVE THREE DAUGHTERS, NANCY LEE, PAULA ANNE, AND PAMELA MARIE. CAPTAIN AND MRS. OWENS MAKE THEIR HOME IN HAMPTON, VIRGINIA. 35
