near wartime situation by events over which there was little control. lt is fully recognized and understood that the sacrifices you all have made have had a great impact on your lives. Your record setting duration of operations at sea with minimal port calls, the t challenging maintenance of sophisticated equipment in a remote area and an extremely harsh environment, the seemingly endless plans which had to slip by the wayside because of the demands of your most exacting duties, have all tested your rnettle severly., lndividually and collectively you have met those challenges in a superb fashion. . Your outstanding performance while carrying out national policy tasking was extraordinary in every sense and was in consonance with the finest traditions of the Naval service. For your dedication, superior professionalism and the many sacrifices which each of you has made, I salute you and offer my sincere and deep appreciation. You exemplify the very best in sailormen and those characteristics which have made our country great. 1 l Memorial Day 1980 will be all the more memorable for us because TEXAS and CALIFORNIA will once again be home.
