FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF As your Battle Group nears the end of its deployment, please pass the heartiest appreciation of a grateful country to the officers and men of these magnificent ships for a job well done. The superior manner in which these ships have met the unprecendented demands of Indian Ocean operations during the past several months speaks highly of the dedication and professionalism of every man involved, The responsiveness and resourcefulness exhibited in carrying out this complex national tasking has clearly demonstrated U,S. commitment to maintain a credible military presence in this vitally important area. The outstanding performance, personal sacrifice, and dedication to duty eirhibited by the crewmembers of these fine ships are noted with exceptional pride and satisfaction. David C. Jones, General, U.S. Air Force FROM THE SECRETARY OF THE NAVY As you drew nearer to home, I would like to express my deeply felt gratitude, and that of our entire nation, for your outstanding service during your long deployment to the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean.
