Heather Franklin wins 1984 crown as Miss Texas A I This year’s pageant coordinator Allison Taylor created a lively and well-run show. For the opening number, contestants were intro- duced after dancing to a jazz tune, and while they changed clothes for swimsuit and evening gown competitions, the audience was enter- tained by Craig Karges, a professional mentalist and illusionist. 26

Fall Carnival provides fun for students and raises money for groups The Student Activities Board not only handled booth set-ups, tables and chairs for the Fall Carnival, but they also brought in live entertainment in the form of juggler Robert York (top left). Booths included the cake walk sponsored by the Pre-Law Socie- ty, horse races and the traditional jail. 25
