Getting physical seems to be “the thing” to do these days. How to shape-up slogans are blasted at you from everywhere — the radio, television, movies, books — Everywhere! What’s so new about telling people to get physically fit? P.E. teachers have been trying to pound the exercise syndrome into my head for years. I don’t like to run unless it’s early dawn, early evening or midnight. Running any other time in South Texas is like sticking your head into a very warm, muggy oven. Swimming is great, but not indoors. Lifting weights would probably be good for me, but who has the time to go into the gym and learn how? Bottom line: You get physical; I’ll stay me. Editor’s note. 11
