The Kings Rifles Drill Tearn of A I won all five first place trophies at a Drill meet at the University of Houston. Area Journalism students heard from journalist such as Tony DeHaro KRIS-TV; and other on the Broadcast Media Day.

December The Middle East conflict was the sub- ject of a debate sponsored by the Inter- national Relations Club in December. The presentations of the Arab and Israeli sides of the conflict had an audi- ence of more than 150 vacillating between sides with every speaker. The Israeli panel consisted of Michael J. Fellner, assistant professor of sociology and psychology; Paul E. Soe- fer, history instructor; and Maurice Schmidt, assistant art professor. The pro-Arab panelists included Hari N. Dam, associate professor of journal- ism; Mahmond Muhamed Sahtout, assistant professor of math; and Orhan Ayhan, political science instructor, Debate moderator was Charles Bajza, geography-geology department chair- man. Broadcast Media Day attracted South Texas TV and radio personalities to A I in December. Area journalism stu- dents heard behind-the-scenes anec- dotes from such journalists as Tony DeHaro, KRIS-TV; Herb Porter, KIKN: Jack Collins, KIII-TV; Luis Munoz, KONO; Dick Messbarger, KPUP and Mike Prater, KRYS. The Kings Rifles Drill Team of A I won all five first place trophies offered by the 11th annual Gulf Gost Senior Drill Meet .at the University of Houston. Rumald Rodriquez of Brownsville was the individual winner and the team captured first in inspection, basic, pre- cision, and overall competition. A student art show representing the best work produced during the fall semester was sponsored by the art department in the campus art gallery this month. The show was designed to give students an opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional manner and to gain experience in competition. The shoiv had several types of graphic prints, paintings, wall hangings and sculpture. An outdoor lunchtime Christmas concert for all Texas A I University students, faculty, administra- tors and employees, was presented by the music department. 26 The rock musical, Celebration by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt was presented by Alpha Fsi Omega Dramatic Fraternity and the Footlights Club.

January Spring registration began January 15 this year and classes began Fri- day, January 18, Students with 8:00 courses walked to classes in the morning dark because of the coun- try’s switch to Daylight Savings Time. Clocks were set forward one hour to allow for more economical use of energy. The Young Americans appeared as a Kingsville Community Concert Association presentation in Jones Auditorium in January, The group is known for its television appear- ances, foreign tours, recordings, and a motion picture. They were chosen for combined vocal, instrumental, dancing and academic abilities, from 200 high schools and colleges in Southern California. The Texas A I University Open Chess Tournament was held in the SUB in mid-January. Dr. Jack Hardy, A I mathematics professor, and Tom Weaver of Corpus Christi, an official U.S, Chess Federation tour- nament director, directed the meet. Seven Texas A I speech students participated in the 41st annual Wild- cat Speech Tournament January 25- 26 on the Abilene Christian College campus. Areas entered were debate, impromptu and oration. Student fill out and organize cards during Spring registration. One of the Richard Davis works present in the art gallery is the Trojan Horse. 28
