October Parents of A I students crowded the campus Saturday October 6 for Dad's Day, The day’s events, as in former years, included a rodeo in the Kleberg Park Arena, a barbeque at Mesquite Grove, a horticulture display and sale in the Agriculture Building and open house by all campus buildings. Tours were taken of the campus, King Ranch, and John E, Conner Museum. During halftime of the A I-East Texas State football game an award was presented to Rafael Billogas who traveled 2,000 miles from Travis Air Force Base, Cali- fornia to visit his son Rafael. Also dur- ing halftime, 74-year-old Jose C. Rodri- guez of Kingsville was honored as the oldest father present His daughter Mary Jane and son Victor Ramon attend A I, ROTC sponsored a rifle-shooting contest on the .22 range during their open house. Winning with a perfect score of 50 was H. H. Tripp of San Antonio, father of Cadet Steven Tripp. Best shot among the mothers was a 49 by Mrs. Ana Maria Rodriquez of Brownsville. She has two sons in the corps, Ronald and Francisco. The fourth annual Derby Day was also held Oct. 6 in conjunction with Dad’s Day and was sponsored by Sigma Chi, Various events at Mesquite Grove included a Balloon Burst and Sawhorse Over a Mud Hole, A Derby Day Queen was crowned at the dance at Henrietta Memorial Center. Thirteen area schools participated in A I’s 13th annual Band Day on October 20. Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma arranged the event to include an afternoon parade through Kingsville and a halftime performance at the A I- San Angelo State football game Dr Gerald Robins, president of the Univer- sity, was Grand Marshall of the parade and presented trophies to the best play- ing, marching, and all around band dur- ing the football game intermission. “A Salute to Texas was the theme for the 1,000 musicians. Providing conversation for many stu- dents this month was the sighting of several UFOs over Texas and Kings- ville Also, numerous grumbles could be heard about the heavy rainfalls and flooded streets. One of many events that took place at Dad's Day was a rodeo sponsored by the Rodeo Club. 22 Sigma Chi sponsors the fourth Annual Derby Day.

The A I Artist Course Committee sponsored a one night appearance of the Houston Ballet. At the beginning of the fall semester, the University was switched over to a Centrex telephone system. The workmen installed an underground cab!
