September Forty-seven students were selected on September 26 to fill the positions of class officers and Student Congress representatives-at-large. The Political Equality Party filled most of the gov- ernmental seats, over-riding the Inde- pendent Student Party and nonpartisan cadidates. The A I Artist Course Committee sponsored a one night appearance of the Houston Ballet on September 12 in Jones Auditorium. The Ballet per- formed “New York” by Lee Anoned, “Through a Glass Lightly,M “Pas DeDeux” and “Paguita.” An Associated Press Wire Service machine was installed in the South Texan office the first week of the fall semester. The machine was secured in fulfillment of Karen Brysch's campaign promise of wire service stories for the student newspaper. The University was switched to a Centrex telephone system prior to the beginning of the fall semester. Centrex permits all campus calls, local and long distance, without operator assistance. A I Kingsville’s registration dropped 11% over last fall. Only 6,896 students enrolled for the fall of 1973 as opposed to 7,682 for the fall of 1972. The decrease in enrollment seems to be a national trend that is sweeping the country’s universities. President Gerald Robins was inaugu- rated in early September. Robins is the presidential successor to Dr. James C. Jernigan who is now chancellor of the Texas A I System. September was sprinkled with a lot of heavy rainfall and hurricane warn- ings. Nationally: Billie Jean King defeated professional hustler Bobby Riggs at the $100,000 winner-take-all tennis tourna- ment in the Houston Astrodome. Watergate Senate Hearings were resumed; the Skylab two crew of Alan L. Bean, Jack R. Lousa, and Dr. Owen K.
