DR, FRANK H. DOTTERWEICH, Professor of Engineering and Director of Division of Engineering Beginning as associate professor of engineering at AGI in 1 September, 1937, Dr. Dotterweich was made a full professor in September, 1941 and director of the department m 1943. The thing uppermost with Dr. Dotterweich has been securing the accrediting of the AGI Engineering Department. For relaxation, Dr. Dotterweich enjoys huntmg and golfing, A. F. GROSS, Professor and Chairman of the Industrial Arts Department A native of Camden, Ohio, Prof. Gross came to A61 as head of his department in September, 1945, from a variety of war-time duties that ranged from developing ceramic battery cases and wares for submarines to visual education coordination at the Sperry Gyroscope Company in New York City. Prof. Gross' time is taken up by his work which includes, besides ceramics, photography, woodworking and met- allurqy. He is a member of several gun and kennel clubs. DR. WILLIAM D. IOHNSON, Associate Professor of Foreign Languages and Acting Chairman of Language Department Dr. Johnson joined the AGI faculty last Iune. Dr. Iohnson has published philosophical articles in Mexican magazines and has published English translations of French and German. . For diversion, Prof. McKenzie works with needle-point and painting in oils, and she collects crystal, hand-painted art objects, china and antiques. 4'---' I. E. CONNER, Professor of History and Government and Chairman of History Department A member of the A511 faculty since the opening of the college in Iune, 1925, Prof. Conner was publicity director and dean of men from 1925 to 1934, dean of the college from 1934 to 1942, and chairman of the graduate council from 1936 through 1941. Proud of the friends-and enemies-he has made, Prof. Conner's principal hobbies are people, history, and the Robert I. Kleberg Museum, which he col- lected. DB. I. R. MANNING, Professor of Business Administration and Director of Division of Business Administration Chairman of the AGI Athletic Council from 1929 to 1935, Dr. Manning served as publicity director for A61 from 1934 to 1936. Dr. Manning is glad to have built, with the help of his asso- ciates, a business administration department which is willing and able to render efficient training to students of South Texas. Personally, Dr. Manning is engrossed in his rock home he is planning to build on his recently acquired acreage west of the city. Besides golf, the palm, citrus, peach, and pecan trees on his acreage are Dr. Manning's hobbies.

BAILEY, IR., Associate Professor of Art Excepting six years in the Army from 1940 to 1946 Prof. Bailey has been a mem ber of the AGI facult since 1936 y . Prof. Bailey is proudest of having talked the tower off Nierman Hall. Believing the tower and Nierman Hall simply were not meant to be together, Prof. Bailey argued his beliefs until the incongruous tower was removed. A former cavalryman who keenl en'o ed ridin horses Prof B ie y 3 y g , . a'1 y now gains pleasure from his work, painting and sculpturing. HUGH PORTER, Professor of Mathematics and Chairman of Mathematics Department Prof. Porter is another original professor of AGI, on the faculty since its beginning in Iune, 1925. Raising dogs and keeping bees are two major sources of pleasure for Prof. Porter. He is especially proud of the fact that Assoc. Prof. Cousins uses him for an example in her sociology classes of the advantages of the husband who possesses culinary skill. Too, Prof. Porter is fond of his own delectable angel-food cakes, parker- house rolls, and lemon jelly cakes. 23
