D iii L P . 4 1, ALINE MCKENZIE, Professor of Home Economics and Chairman of Home Economics Department An AGI professor for thirteen years, Prof. McKenzie is most satisfied with the 'N 5-in accomplishments of her graduate studenis. For diversion, Prof. McKenzie works with needle-point and painting in oils, and she collects crystal, hand-painted art objects, china and antiques. 4'---' I. E. CONNER, Professor of History and Government and Chairman of History Department A member of the A511 faculty since the opening of the college in Iune, 1925, Prof. Conner was publicity director and dean of men from 1925 to 1934, dean of the college from 1934 to 1942, and chairman of the graduate council from 1936 through 1941. Proud of the friends-and enemies-he has made, Prof. Conner's principal hobbies are people, history, and the Robert I. Kleberg Museum, which he col- lected. DB. I. R. MANNING, Professor of Business Administration and Director of Division of Business Administration Chairman of the AGI Athletic Council from 1929 to 1935, Dr. Manning served as publicity director for A61 from 1934 to 1936. Dr. Manning is glad to have built, with the help of his asso- ciates, a business administration department which is willing and able to render efficient training to students of South Texas. Personally, Dr. Manning is engrossed in his rock home he is planning to build on his recently acquired acreage west of the city. Besides golf, the palm, citrus, peach, and pecan trees on his acreage are Dr. Manning's hobbies.

' Two and one-half years later, he was promoted to full pro- fessor and to head of the economics and sociology departments, ' 1 Prof. Connell was then associate dean of the cgllege for five years continuing as head of economic and sociology depqn- ments and the newly created geography departments. ln 1947, Pror. Connell was appointed director of the Division of Arts and Sciences. Prof. Connell served as president of the South Texas Division of the Texas State Teachers' Association in 1939. From 1931 through 1946, he was secretary-treasurer of that organization. Golf is Prof. Conne11's hobby, and he plays it regularly. KKK k ' ff' DR. ROBERT D. RHODE, Professor of English and Chairman of English and Iour- w Z5f.,51, g lf.L ig, nalism Department s Dr. Rhode came to AGI as head of the English and Iouinalism Department in September, 1940. From February, 1943 through April, 1946. he served in the U. S. Navy. Since 1940, the English Department has been offering new and advanced courses and more creative work, has been teaching more hours, and has an increased staff. F l,D.Rhd 'd . CHIDESTER, Professor of Music and Chairman of Music Department A v .With A61 since Iune. 1945, Dr. Chidester is largely responsible for re-estabv ' lishing the annual oratorio performance, rebuilding the A61 Choir, raising the V standards of AGI music majors, and for making AGI the headquarters of Region VII of the Interscholastic League. fry A music teacher has so many avenues of outlet through various community channels that he hardly needs a hobby, Dr. Chidester believes. ..-f A ' mi . DR, FRANK H. DOTTERWEICH, Professor of Engineering and Director of Division of Engineering Beginning as associate professor of engineering at AGI in 1 September, 1937, Dr. Dotterweich was made a full professor in September, 1941 and director of the department m 1943. The thing uppermost with Dr. Dotterweich has been securing the accrediting of the AGI Engineering Department. For relaxation, Dr. Dotterweich enjoys huntmg and golfing, A. F. GROSS, Professor and Chairman of the Industrial Arts Department A native of Camden, Ohio, Prof. Gross came to A61 as head of his department in September, 1945, from a variety of war-time duties that ranged from developing ceramic battery cases and wares for submarines to visual education coordination at the Sperry Gyroscope Company in New York City. Prof. Gross' time is taken up by his work which includes, besides ceramics, photography, woodworking and met- allurqy. He is a member of several gun and kennel clubs. DR. WILLIAM D. IOHNSON, Associate Professor of Foreign Languages and Acting Chairman of Language Department Dr. Johnson joined the AGI faculty last Iune. Dr. Iohnson has published philosophical articles in Mexican magazines and has published English translations of French and German. .
