ALICE Y. McCONNELL, a graduate of Meridian Junior College and Baylor University, has been Counsellor of Women at A I since September, 1943. She did graduate study at the University of Texas and at East Texas State Teachers College. An interesting and ver- satile speaker, Mrs. McConnell has become well-known throughout South Texas for her appearances on Hogg Foundation programs, sponsored by the University of Texas. JOHN L. BEARD, assistant to the president, came to A I in September, 1944. Previous to his present position, he was vice president and busi- ness manager at Oklahoma University. He re- ceived his A.B. degree from Howard Payne Col- lege, his B.S. from Daniel Baker College, his M.A. from Hardin Simmons University, and is complet- ing work on his Ph.D. from the University of Texas. DR. JOHN L. NIERMAN, Chairman of the Graduate Council, is one of the original faculty members of A L He has three times been acting president of A I, and for five years was Dean of the College. At present he is head of the science department. Dr. Nierman attended the University of Missouri, receiving his A.B. and B.S. degrees there in 1919, his M.A. degree in 1920, and Ph.D. in 1924. He came to A SI from Sweet Briar College, Virginia.

DR. OTTO R. NIELSEN, who was appointed dean of A 51 in 1942, received his B.A., B.D., and M.A, degrees from Texas Christian University, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Texas He has done graduate work at the University of Chicago and the Uni- versity of Minnesota. Dr. Nielsen was formerly assistant to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Texas, and before that Dean of Men at Texas Christian University. R. E. MAY, Business Manager and another of the original faculty members of the college, is better known to students and faculty alike as Pop,” He attended the University of Texas, and was formerly head accountant of the Rice Hotel in Houston. GEORGE M. SIMONS received his B.S. from A6J in 1935, and was appointed Assistant Busi- ness Manager the same year. In 1941 he was also named as Purchasing Agent for the college. DR. GEORGE W, McCULLEY, registrar of the college and a professor of business administration, received his B.A. degree from Daniel Baker College, and his M.A. from the University of Texas. Dr. McCulley came to Adi in 1930 as registrar and head of the department of accounting.

HAROLD N. WHITE was appointed Assist- ant to the Dean and Acting Director of Exten- sion in the spring of 1944 following the depar- ture of the Army Specialized Training Unit. While the unit was on the campus, Mr. White instructed the trainees in mathematics, and this year he was a member of the staff of the Eng- lish department. He received his B.A. and M.
