he Corps of Cadets has changed great¬ ly since Texas A M began in 1876 as an all¬ male military college. Corps membership became optional in 1965 and women were admitted to the University in 1968. They were admitted to the Corps in the early ’70s. Today, civilian students and the Corps work together to uphold Aggie traditions. Some traditions still are restricted to Corps members, but students still stand at foot¬ ball games and say “howdy” to each other. As one cadet puts it, “Nobody puts as much time into tradition as the Texas Aggie stu¬ dent body and the Corps of Cadets.” TOP: Two members of the Corps of Cadets explain War Memorial Dedication procedure to a civilian student.
