T raditions Traditions — They can be an impor¬ tant part of our lives, and everyone has been involved with some type of tradi¬ tion at one time or another. The strong traditional undercurrent at Texas A M is the one reason many students chose to come to Aggieland. This past year many of the traditions were questioned and the reactions to those questions showed two completely opposite views. Some people feel tradi¬ tions are outdated and unnecessary. Others find them essential and consider them to be the backbone of this school. This controversy will no doubt continue until some type of solution is discovered — if that is possible. Keep in mind that traditions are good, but they should not be followed blindly. When a stranger asks why a tradition is kept, we must first pose that question to ourselves. And, if we think objectively, we might sometimes realize that we don’t really know. It may cause us to realize questions we were afraid to ask or hadn’t bothered to ask. Listening, asking questions and being objective are important. And following traditions is also important. But not go¬ ing through life blindly is most impor¬ tant of all.
