Parents ' Weekend filled with plays, games, shows and ceremonies Reservations were made a year in ad¬ vance. All the hotels in College Station were full as Aggie parents descended upon Texas A M April 13 to meet girl¬ friends, boyfriends, and to do a little checking up on their own. Friday night, parents could see the MSC Variety Show or Theatre Arts’ production of “Romeo and Juliet.” Lat¬ er that night at RHA Casino, they could see how their children really spend their money. Saturday, children could watch their dads play football at the Alumni Foot¬ ball Game. Sunday morning, the Parents’ Day Awards Ceremony capped off the weekend. 1983-84 Aggie parents of the year, Bill and Gardner Osborn, gave up their standing to James, Class of ’53, and Janice Uptmore. More than 100 corps awards were presented to outstanding members of the Corps of Cadets. Gathright schol¬ ars, students having the highest grade point ratios in their college classifica¬ tions, were announced, and the Buck Weirus Spirit Award winners received a plaque and a watch. After all the whoops and applause had ended, parents packed their cars and headed back home until the next year. Traditions 21
