The terms “Greek Row’’ and “Frat Rat’’ do not usually bring to mind vi¬ sions of people serving the communi¬ ty. fraternities and sororities are often seen as groups of college students who wear preppy clothes and throw wild parties. However more time is spent by each of the Greek groups on their individual ser¬ vice projects than on any other event. Sigma Chi Derby Day is the culmina¬ tion of a schedule of banquets, dances and sorority competition that is planned for months in advance. The Sigma Chi’s send the profits to Wallace Village for Children, a com¬ munity designed for retarded children. Chi Omega Songfest also involves weeks of practice that con¬ clude in an exciting show of talent by all the Greeks. Many organizations receive assistance from Greeks, including Ronald McDonald Houses, Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center, and Texas A M University’s heart research program. Greeks seem to have the right idea; benefit the com¬ munity and have good time doing it. They deserve credit for a job well done. Greek Service 21
