Student “Y” Fish Camp Several hundred ragged people stumble off dirty buses, calling out names, exchanging phone numbers, carrying luggage and creating chaos. These people, tired and dirty, are Aggie freshmen returning from Student “Y” Fish Camp. There are two ways to be indoctrinated into life at Texas A M University. One way is to attend Texas A M and slowly acquire, through osmosis, a love for maroon and white, a collie named Reveille, and a century of traditions. The other way, more popular every year, is Fish Camp. Fish Camp is a combination of lack of sleep, people, terrible food, people, campfires, people, volleyball, and more people. The three days spent at Fish Camp are a time to make new friends, have fun, and learn what being an Aggie means. There are counselors (Sophomores, Jun¬ iors, and Seniors supposedly well versed in Aggie lore) and “fish” (known as freshmen at other schools.) These fish learn why Aggies stand at football games, what the Corps of Cadets is, how to whoop, and many other Aggie traditions. Ask those fish that step off the buses what they learned at Fish Camp and they will tell you ... “Aggie Spirit.” Marsha Hoehn Bob Sebree i 16 fish Camp
