Ea 2 : • 1 A little higher on the power structure of the Corps of Cadets is the junior who receives new responsibilities and privileges. One of the first privileges received is the right to wear the junior uniform. After his sophomore final review, a junior dons a white belt, a new buckle, a biter with white trim, more brass, and a new shirt. Other privileges a junior receives are the right to interior decorate his room, to walk on dirt, and to ' Whoop. ' Just as privilege comes with rank, so does responsibility. Like the sophomores, the juniors instruct the freshmen and make sure they look sharp. But the juniors also watch over the sophomores and keep them sharp. This responsibility is car¬ ried out by the juniors by the positions they hold in the outfit. A junior may be a squad leader, discipline sergeant, or athletic sergeant, among many varied posi¬ tions. The position with the most responsibility is the first sergeant, who does the secretarial and organizational work of the outfit. The first sergeant is held responsible for the actions of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors alike by higher ups. Then the members of the outfit hold grudges against him when hard tasks and punishments are handed out. He often gets all the blame but little of the credit. Juniors have rank, privilege, and responsibility over two classes but still have one more year before they receive boots and begin that year that all cadets look towards.
