James Earl Rudder ’32 1910 - 1970 It is only fitting and proper to dedicate the 1970 Aggie- land to the late James Earl Rudder, 14th president of Texas A M University. As a single individual, he did more for his alma mater than most distinguished alumni have done or ever hope to do. In ten short years. General Rudder “turned a segre¬ gated military college into an integrated coeducational university,” much in the same manner and with the same determination in which he scaled the cliffs of Normandy and straightened out the land commissioner’s office. He created a dynamic university which ranks among the best. We think it is the best and so did President Rudder. He thought so much of his school that he died while still serv¬ ing it to his fullest capacity. He was sensitive and sincere, firm but fair; he was one of the most outstanding university presidents in the United States. 13
