President Earl Rudder Born in Eden, Texas, in 1910, President Earl Rudder attended what is now Tarleton State College for two years and completed his education at A AA, where he lettered in football. A 1932 graduate, he received a B.S. in industrial education and until the beginning of World War II taught and coached football. His Army career began as a first lieutenant. Within four years he had attained the rank of colonel, only to soon lead the Second Ranger Battalion against Pointe du Hoe on the Normandy Cliffs, D-Day. On July 12, 1967, the World War II hero retired from the Army Reserve. His last assignment was assistant deputy commander for mobilization, CON- ARC, with the rank of major general. Upon retire¬ ment, he received the nation ' s highest award for peacetime service, the Distinguished Service Medal. As president of the University, Mr. Rudder took office on July 1, 1959. Since that time he has raised Texas A M University to a greater status through his undying loyalty for his alma mater, state and nation. 17
