Board of Directors The Texas A M University System L F. Peterson, SEATED RIGHT, president; S. B. Whittenburg, SEATED LEFT, vice-president; STANDING, FROM LEFT: Dr. A. P. Beutel, Wofford Cain, H. C. Helden- fels, Peyton McKnight, Sterling Evans and Clyde H, Wells. The men pictured above comprise the governing body for The Texas A AA University System, a vast educational, research and service complex which directly or indirectly affects every person in the state. Each geographical area of the state is represented on the Board of Directors by a man highly successful in his own field. Board members are appointed for six-year terms by the Governor and confirmed by the State Senate. Three new appointments, or re-appointments, are made every two years. Each man serves without financial compensation. In addition to attending five regular meet¬ ings annually and occasional called sessions, they devote considerable extra time—at the expense of their families and businesses—to representing The Texas A AA University System in a variety of endeavors. As Board members for The Texas A AA University System, they serve and set the pace for the following institutions: Texas A AA University, Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, Texas Agricul¬ tural Extension Service, Texas Engineering Experiment Station, Texas Engineering Extension Service, Texas Forest Service, Texas AAaritime Academy. Texas Transportation Institute, Prairie View A AA College, Tarleton State College and James Connally Technical Institute. 16
