svere w OFRaaLS Office of the Chancellor of the A AA System was created in 1948 by the Board of Directors. The Chancellor is the directing head of all activities of the A AA University System, and administers the various colleges, agencies, and services of the Sys¬ tem through an executive officer in charge of each. Dr. AA. T. Harrington rose to the position of chan¬ cellor from the A AA College presidency, which he first held in 1950. He has been a part of A AA for forty-six years, earning his B.S. and AA.S. degrees here, and teaching in the Chemistry Department until 1941, when he went to Iowa State for his Ph.D. Since then, he has served A AA to the best of his ability. Appointed by the Governor of Texas, the Board of Directors is responsible for the management of the Texas A AA University System. The citizenry of Texas is represented by Board members coming from all parts of the state and all walks of life. All major policies of the System, such as the recent name change, the building pro¬ gram, the admission of student ' s wives to classes, and the obtainment of the new cyclotron institute, are initiated by the Board, at their regular meetings. The successes of the A AA ' System in the past, present, and fu¬ ture can be traced to the efforts of the A AA University Board of Directors. 8

PRESIDENT EARL RUDDER President Rudder assumed office on July 1, 1959. His administration has been marked by vast expansion of facilities, higher salaries for staff and faculty and the attainment of greater status for Texas A AA Univer¬ sity. Mr. Rudder was born in Eden, Texas, in 1910. He attended Tarleton Agricultural College (now Tarleton tate College) for two years, and com¬ pleted his education at A M, where he lettered in football. He graduated in 1932, receiving the B.S. degree in Industrial Education. He taught and coached football until the beginning of the Second World War, when he went into the Army as a first lieuten¬ ant. He served with distinction, at¬ taining the rank of Colonel in less than four years, and led the Second Ranger Battalion ' s assault on the cliffs of Normandy on D-Day. Before coming to A M he served as Texas Land Commissioner, and presently serves as Assistant Deputy Commander of reserve forces, Con¬ tinental Army Command, holding the rank of Major General. 10
