Foreword The calendar on the wall, much marked and tattered with dates crossed ou1 or notations scribbled and quizzes checked ... or too often, unchecked. Our college experience is a doorway to life, and it is growth that opens the door. Growth, without which our college would long ago have died and which makes each of us better today than we were yesterday. Growth through physical expansion, growth through experience, growth through the study of books, growth through research—which make, if possible, for us to develop a thorough knowledge of the latest techniques in all fields. To the extent that we use these forms of growth, we open that door with confidence and op¬ portunity. An annual, like a diary, is a record of things past. In this record of the past year, there also is the opportunity to show the rest of the world what a great institution we really have. We sincerely hope that we have fulfilled this twofold purpose of the 1961 AGGIELAND. The Editors ■X “ « « »! «-I Tl H r Jr ■siMm i - ■ ‘ r»T»]

Dedication Every man needs an inspiration to reach and realize his life ' s goals and ideals; this inspiration is more often than not received from womankind. XT In early life we first receive this spirit from our mothers who watch over us as we grow into man¬ hood. Then, as we grow older our interests widen and the scope takes in a girlfriend, our sweetheart, and later still we take a wife who now has that great job of pushing us onward. At Texas A AA, few are the students who can make it through without that bit of inspiration from our mothers, wives, or sweethearts. We live here with¬ out women and for five days a week studies are next to impossible without those pictures, those let¬ ters or that little love and inspiration. ■ ' fw It is with these thoughts that we dedicate this book to our mothers, wives, and sweethearts, represented on this page by the Mother of the Year, Mrs. A M, and the Aggie Sweetheart.
