Objectives of the A M College are maintained by the Executive Committee as set forth by the College by-laws. Under the direction of President Rudder in weekly meet¬ ings, the committee decides how best to keep the College heading toward its primary objective stated by Statute: The leading object of this college shall be, without ex¬ cluding other scientific and classroom studies, and in¬ cluding military tactics, to teach such branches of learn¬ ing as are related to agriculture and the mechanical arts, in such a manner as the legislature may prescribe, in order to promote the liberal and practical education of the in¬ dustrial classes in the several pursuits and professions in life. The following items are those which the committee has pledged itself to support: Texas A M College Executive 1. To develop professional leadership in agriculture, veterinary medicine, forestry and their allied fields; in engineering, including the mechanic arts and technical and industrial training; in scientific studies and applied sciences. 2. To develop educational leadership through the train¬ ing of teachers for agriculture, engineering, and basic and applied sciences. 3. To develop military leadership by providing a strong and effective system of military training. 4. To develop in potential leaders the moral and spiritual values essential for effective leadership in a democracy. 5. To develop an atmosphere of scholarship within which the faculty can realize their full potential for service to society and within which the student can be inspired toward the realization of his potentials. President of the College Earl Rudder In 1960 a former student was inaugurated president of The A AA College, and this new president pledged himself to seek solutions to the problems facing the College. Earl Rudder has taken tremendous strides in keeping this pledge. Enrollment is on the increase and dropouts are decreasing. The educational facilities con¬ tinually are being improved. Many other changes in the right direction have been and are being made by President Rudder. The President is experienced, having served as vice- president of Texas A M College before ascending to the presidency. A member of the Class of 1932, he is familiar with Aggie history, spirit, and tradition. He also has an outstanding record of achievement as soldier and statesman. The future of Texas A M rests primarily with Presi¬ dent Rudder. With his capable leadership, A M College is sure to go forward.
