School of Arts and Sciences At Texas A M twenty-four curricula are available through 14 major departments within the School of Arts and Sciences. These curricula can he grouped into broad general categories of Liberal Arts. Business Administration. Edu¬ cation and Psychology and the Sciences. All programs are sprinkled liberally with courses teaching the natural sciences, social sciences and the humanities. Liberal Arts, which includes the schools of Economics, English. History and Government. Journalism. Mathe¬ matics. Modern Languages, and Preparatory Law, is designed for students whose abilities, interests and aims are better served by a broad general education than by more specialized technological and scientific studies. In all curricula, the first two years are devoted to funda¬ mental subjects, with more specialized study to follow. Business Administration majors may specialize in Accounting. Building Products Marketing. Finance. Gen¬ eral Business. Insurance. Marketing or Personnel Admin¬ istration. In this course of study, specialization comes at the beginning of the sophomore year. All programs lead to the Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. The Department of Education and Psychology, and Health and Physical Education offer teacher education programs. To prepare for a teaching career, a student may choose to major either in Education or one of the arts or sciences, provided that he takes a minimum of 36 hours in his special field. Bachelor of Science Degrees are available in Botany, Chemistry. Entomology. Meteorology. Microbiology, Phy¬ sics. Preparatory Medicine, Preparatory Dentistry and Zoology. These curricula are planned so the student who discovers a change of interest after beginning in agricul¬ ture or engineering can change with a minimum of loss. Sound wave experiments are only a small part of beginning physics courses in the Physics Department at Texas A M. 29
