System Executives Dr. M. T. Harrington Chancellor of the A M System Dr. M. T. Harrington, newly appointed Chancellor of the A M College System, rose to this position from the college presidency which he first held in 1950. In 1953, he was selected as chancellor for the first time, so his new appointment is not unfamiliar to him. Neither is Texas A M. He has been a part of the school for 42 years, earning his B.S. and M.S. degrees here and teaching in the Chemistry Department until 1941 when he journeyed to Iowa State for his Ph.D. degree. Since then, he has continued to serve Texas A M to the best of his ability as an educator, administrator and friend. R. E. PATTERSON Vice-Chancellor Agriculture 25

Execy The Executive Committee, as set forth in the College by-laws, is charged with main¬ taining the objectives of Texas A M College. Meeting once a week, the committee, under the direction of President Rudder, decides how best to keep the college heading toward its primary objective stated by Statute: “The leading object of this college shall be, without excluding other scientific and class¬ ical studies, and including military tactics, to , teach such branches of learning as are re¬ lated to agriculture and the mechanical arts, in such manner os the legislature may pre¬ scribe, in order to promote the liberal and practical education of the industrial classes in the several pursuits and professions in life” In keeping with this Act of the Legislature the executive committee has pledged itself to the support of these principal items: The A M College of Texas This was a big year for A M. Earl Rudder was inaugurated as president, ascending from a two-year vice-presidency. An Aggie from way back, (Class of 1932), Rudder is familiar with Aggie spirit and traditions. During his term as vice-president, he familiarized himself with A M’s policies and administration. He also recognized problem areas and made it clear he was going to do something about them. And he has. Enrollment is rising, dropouts are decreasing and the Corps is forging ahead, secure in the knowledge that a distinguished military leader (Major General, USAR; com¬ mander, 90th Infantry Reserve Division) will guide Texas A M to new heights. 26
