School of Agriculture oung men prepare for a career of farming, ranching, and other busi¬ nesses associated with agriculture in a variety of programs offered by A AA. Four-year programs are available in the departments of Agricultural Economics and Sociology, Agricultural Education, Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Science, Entomology, Floriculture and Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Poultry Science, Range and Fores¬ try, and Wildlife Management. Systematic training is. given in the sciences of chemistry, physics, mathe¬ matics, and biology, all of which are fundamental in the study of scientific agriculture. Also, the wide choice of elective curricula provides excellent opportunity for the student to satisfy his individual interests and needs, as well as qualify him for a bachelor of science degree. Combined technical curricula administered by appropriate committees in conjunction with standard degrees are Animal Science, Food Technology, Plant and Soil Science. Also, a degree in Agricultural Journalism is offered, with two years of the program being given by the Department of Jour¬ nalism. Three departments not having a full four-year program are Biochemistry and Nutrition, Genetics, and Plant Physiology and Pathology. However, the equivalent of a major can be obtained in these fields through the curric¬ ulum in animal science or in plant and soil science. Bill Daniel, brother of Texas ' Governor Price Daniel, opens the annual Aggie Rodeo by throwing wide the gate for the first rider of the show. 18

School of Arts and Sciences wenty-four curricula are available in the school of Arts and Sciences at A AA, leading to B.A. or B.S. degrees. Liberal Arts, which includes the schools of Economics, English, History and Government, Journalism, Mathematics, Modern Languages, and Pre¬ paratory Law, is designed for students whose abilities, interests, and aims are better served by a broad general education than by more specialized technological and scientific studies. In all curricula, the first two years are devoted to fundamental subjects, with more specialized study following. Business Administration majors may specialize in Accounting, Building Products Marketing, Finance, General Business, Insurance, Marketing, or Personnel Administration. In this course of study, specialization comes at the beginning of the sophomore year. A Bachelor of Business Administra¬ tion degree follows completion of the chosen curriculum. The Department of Education and Psychology offers teacher education programs, as does the Department of Health and Physical Education. To prepare for teaching, a student may choose to major either in Education or one of the arts or sciences, provided that he takes a minimum of 36 hours in his specialized field. Bachelor of Science degrees are available in Botany, Chemistry, Entom¬ ology, Meteorology, Microbiology, Physics, Preparatory Medicine, Pre¬ paratory Dentistry, and Zoology. These curricula are planned so the student who discovers a change of interest after beginning in agriculture or engi¬ neering can change with a minimum of loss. J. J. Woolket, Head of the Department of Modern Languages, listens through an auxiliary earphone to a student ' s Spanish pronunciation as recorded on tape in the department ' s brand new language laboratory. 20
