A MESSAGE FROM THE EDITORS TO THE FIGHTIN ' TEXAS AGGIES: During the past four years it has been our privilege to serve on the Aggieland Staff in various posi¬ tions. The past year we were honored by being selected Editor and Assistant Editor of the Aggieland. The 1956-57 school year has truly been a great year for us Aggies — winning the Southwest Con¬ ference Football Championship for the first time since 1941 and breaking the Memorial Stadium jinx, breaking another 34 year old jinx when Coach Ken Loeffler’s basketball team heat the Longhorns twice during the season, an accident insurance plan for students provided by the Student Senate, civilian dormitory organization and civilian freshmen orientation instituted by the Civilian Student Council, and many other accomplishments too numerous to mention. These are the things — The Good Things — that we have tried to record on these few pages. It was not our efforts alone that brings you these memoirs, but instead the combined efforts of many. To these ever-willing-to-help people we wish to extend our most heartfelt thanks — Polly Patranella, Cecilia Prihoda, Joy Roper, Ruth Yarbrough, and Ross Strader of the Student Publications Office; Gene Sut- phen, Helen Martin, and Karen Tedder of the Aggieland Studio; Sports Director Jones Ramsey; and most of all the fish and other members of our staff who worked untiringly, asking no reward in return. Texas A M is a place no one wants to forget and as the years go by we hope your memory will be refreshed by this, Your AGGIELAND ’57. Very truly yours.

SILVER TAPS n JOSE TORRES ’60 BENNY BERNARDONI ’60 DAVID CURRY ’60 MARSHALL MAGERS ’58 REYNALDO DURAN ’60 MARSHALL MAGERS ’58 THE LAST CORPS TRIP It was Judgement Day in Aggieland And tenseness filled the air; All knew there was a trip at hand, But not a soul knew where. Assembled on the drill field Was the world-renowned Twelfth Man, The entire fighting Aggie team And the famous Aggie band. “Eve seen them play since way hack when. And they’ve always had the grit; Eve seen ’em lose and Eve seen ’em win, But Eve never seen ’em cpiit. And out in front with Royal Guard The reviewing party stood; St. Peter and his angel staff Were choosing bad from good. First he surveyed the Aggie team And in terms of an angel swore, “By Jove, I do believe Eve seen This gallant group before. “No need for us to tarry here Deciding upon their fates; ’Tis as plain as the halo on my head That they’ve opened Heaven’s gates.” And when the Twelfth Man heard this, They let out a mighty yell That echoed clear to Heaven And shook the gates of Hell. 4
