ACTING PRESIDENT D. W. WILLIAMS After a swift confirmation of President Morgan’s resignation by the executive committee of the A M Board of Directors, D. W. Williams, Vice Chancellor of Agriculture for the A M System, was named Acting President. Mr. Williams was formally appointed Acting President December 21, 1956, four days after Dr. Morgan tendered his resignation. Mr. Williams, a native of Ohio, was educated at Ohio State University, the University of Illinois, and the University of Chicago. He joined the faculty of Texas A M in 1919 as a member of the Department of Animal Husbandry, serving as head of that department from 1922 to 1943. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Williams re-entered the Army in World War II as a major in the military government section. He served 22 months in Europe, and was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Upon his return to A M in 1946, Mr. Williams was made Vice President for Agricul¬ ture of the college and in 1948 was named Vice Chancellor for Agriculture of the Texas A M College System. He has served in this capacity until appointed acting president.

FORMER PRESIDENT DAVID H. MORGAN On December 21, 1956. Texas A M lost one of its most tireless and unselfish workers in the person of Dr. David H. Morgan. Although his term was short, he nonetheless found his way into the heart of every Aggie. From the very beginning he commanded the esteem and respect of all who had contact with him. Taking the reins of the presidency in troubled times, Dr. Morgan immediately led us on to such achievements as the re-organization of the Corps of Cadets, a championship loot- ball team, erection and redecoration of numerous buildings, and the raising of scholastic standards. He also was instrumental in organizing Student Personnel Services, a new Stu¬ dent Health Services program, raising of faculty salaries, increasing clothes allowances for cadets, and organizing the Council of Military College Presidents to present the military problems of these schools to the Department of Defense. It will be indeed difficult to find a person of equal calibre. For the man who will lead this spirited, bustling, growing institution will have to meet high and exacting standards set by a beloved and illustrious predecessor. 14
