POLITICS... at A. and M. took an upward swing during the 48- 49 term. More aspirants filed, 92, for student government positions than in any pre¬ vious election. The campaigning was hot and close in many dorms as the politicos pro¬ pounded their platforms. After the election the cigar-passing, speech-making, sign-paint¬ ing campaigners settled down to the jobs to which they had been elected. And much to the credit of the Senate, student activities, living conditions, and recreational facilities at Aggieland were greatly improved over past years. Charlie Kirkham, Student Senate prexy, pushes the WSSF drive. 13 Following the campaigning of one enterprising young politico. Chuck Cabaniss, is revealing. He won, too.

SOCIALS... of the 48-49 term were varied. Beginning in September and continuing until the Final Ball in June the social calendar was one filled with picnics, dances, banquets, and church parties. The Senior Ball became the Senior Balls because of the increased number of graduating seniors. Club banquets and out¬ fit bails made Sbisa a center for weekend socials. The Cotton Pageant and Ball were acclaimed as the biggest and best ever promoted by the Agronomy Society. The presence of R. G. LeTournau made the BSU banquet one of the top religious socials. Whether in buttons and bows or tuxes and ° ld black Nickiejoe takes his whirl at the costumed Architectural Ball. ties Aggies enjoyed the boost in morale f he social season afforded. 15
