One of the most striking things so far in this war has been the almost unbelieveable high moral and national unity shown by the British people during their most trying times. The raids over the British Isles have killed thousands of British civilians, and left through- out Great Britain tragic scars of warfare, unknown on that side of th e English Channel for 900 years. The realities of total warfare have been carried into every British home. Yet all classes face danger together in an air raid shelter as cheerful as though nothing out of the ordinary were taking place. On visiting a British town the next day after a raid, one sees new scaffolding erected next to smoking ruins, as new build¬ ings, symbols of British optimism, arise to replace the old. Yes, the British people are truly working together for victory and are determined to keep together after the war to build a worthier future.
