THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS UR. F. M. LAW Chairman The welfare of the students of A. M. College rests in the hands of a group of men whose actions and services have indicated that they have this responsibility foremost in their minds. These men, The Board of Directors, are appointed by the Governor of Texas for six years; and their many services and tireless efforts are rendered solely for the student body and the college. In rendering these services this group of men aid the college probably more than any other super ' visory group. The Board has for its Chairman Dr. F. M. Law, Fresh dent of The First National Bank of Houston; Mr. G. R. White, a banker and ranchman of Brady, is Vice Chairman. Other members of the Board are H. L. Kokernot, Jr., R. W. Briggs, A. H. AGRICULTURAL AND MECHANICAL COLLEGE OF TEXAS COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT May 1, 1343 To the Class of 19441 Gentlonem In normal times this Class would have graduated in June 1944» Because of the war necessity, some of you will he leaving school a semester short of graduation. This is truly a war class. Those who are called to military service will he compelled to forego tha completion of their academic education to give their trained service for war on those who would subject our Nation and the world to dictator philosophy. As you go forth we know you are equipped to give the highest type of service to your Country and to mankind. Beside the attributes of the soldier, you have that spark of something that men trained at A, U, College and living in a free country, possess; that something which in this war may be the difference between defeat and ultimate victory. The difference between you and the enemy you will face arises to a great extent from the fact that the future you have planned for yourselves is of your oirn planning and not by dictatorial fiat. That future you are willing to fight for. It is a future in which you and a free people want to live. Those of you who enter the service immediately go to join that great group of A, M. men who are now in the service. That spark of something the A, M, men have in the war burns brighter for your having- attended A. M, College, for here those qualities for which Democracy stands are inherent in the institutional atmosphere and in the training you receive. We know that you irill give a good account of yourselves as A, M. men in the past have done. It is our hope that the future allows each of you whose education may be disrupted for a little while to return to A. M, when Deace comes, to complete your academic work which has been interrupted. As you leave you go with our prayers for Godspeed and a safe return. PRESIDENT. To :MNW
