In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms. The first is FREEDOM of speech and expression — everywhere in the world. The second is FREEDOM of every person to worship Cod in his own way — everywhere in the world. The third is FREEDOM from want — which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants — everywhere in the world. The fourth is FREEDOM from fear — which, translated into world terms, means a world ' wide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor — anywhere in the world. 11 —F. D. Roosevelt. Some one hundred and seventy years ago thirteen colonies were in search of similar freedoms. They were searching for “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” — some¬ thing they were not accustomed to. Led by such men as Washington, Jefferson and Madi¬ son their freedom was soon to come. With their Declaration of Independence the freedom that we have learned to enjoy was born. Now some one hundred and seventy years later this freedom is threatened by the forces of tyranny and oppression. Yes, this freedom will survive because just as the “spirit of freedom 11 led our forefathers it will again lead us and we, too, will have our Washingtons and Jeffersons. To this intangible asset — the “Spirit of Freedom 11 we dedicate this the 1942 Longhorn. 6
