IN MEMCRIAM The history of Texarkana College and the history of William Porter Akin over a span of more than thirty-five years are so closely interwoven that one could not be written without the other. It is not given to many men to have the privilege and the opportunity to serve an institution for so long a time. Nor is it given to many to possess the qualities of dedica- tion, devotion and singleness of purpose which Mr. Akin gave to his responsibilities as teacher, dean, vice-president and president of Tex- arkana College. Rarely indeed is one individual blessed with the traits of character possessed by this quiet, unassuming man. The lives of thousands of successful men and women today bear witness to Presi- dent Akin's intense desire to help young people with his wise counsel and his sincere and abiding personal interest. It is impossible to assess what his life has meant to the college, the community and the area. That what he did was done with only the purpose of helping can be said by every teacher, every student, and every citizen with whom he came in contact. To say that William Porter Akin will be sorely missed is but an in- adequate expression of our loss. His memorial is in the lives of those to whom he so unswervingly dedicated himself through his many years of service. C. C. Burrus Acting President

We, the annual staff, proudly dedicate the 1964 Bulldog to T C's own COP- Mr. Claude O. Pinkerton. Editor Nita Fran Hutcheson presents gift to Mr. Pinker- ton at the annual Presentation Ball. Mr. Pinkerton has served TC as English and speech professor, head of the English Department, Dean of Stu- dents, and is presently Act- ing Dean. He is highly re- spected by all who know him. TC has certainly benefited by his presence . . . 4 Sara Shirey and Sarah Durnis discuss spring events which are already on the calendar.
