THE HISTORY OlF TETON COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL Teton County was named aftel a tube ot Indians who belonged to the Sioux family and lived in these parts The Teton County High School began in the grammai school bllllillflff in 1900 where Mr P I Cole who was the pimcmal ot the g1ammar school tauffht fnst year high school along with his other work Four students were enrolled in the high school work In 1901 Mr A B Guthiie came here as first principal of our hign school and for the following three years the school occuoled the upper part of the grammar school building It was then moved to the Woodman Hall and remained there for the next yeal and one half In 1903 a thiee year coul se of studw was plepared and minted and a new teacher added Mr D H W e11 A meeting of the board w as held ln 1904 to discuss the adx 1sab1l1ty of buildlng a high school Seveial othe1 meetings followed and at last the decision was favoiable hence ten acres of the Shexburn Ranch were pur chased for the site Doctors Lone and Befxupre were appointed on the building committee and material was oi dei ed to be on the giound bv July in the fall of the same year The building was completed and the school opened in the new building in Februaix 1906 The first athletes representing Teton High went to Missoula in April 1905 1907 brought a new IJllHClp3l M1 W W Jones M1 Iones seived 111 this capacity until 1909 when he was succeeded by M1 Bs 1on E Tone In 1911 the installation of a Noimal Coulse 111 Teton H1 h was con templated lVIr D J Dean took the position of p11nc1pal in 1912 and was suc ceeded oy Mr M C D1etr1ch in 1913 In 1914 the Domestic Science Department was discussed and estab lished in 1916 with Miss Anne Brenneman as the first teacher Our first Normal 1nst1ucto1 Miss Putmm was employed in 1917 She organized the depai tment and opened It to 1un1o1s and seniors The study ot German w as dlscontinucd tlom the school culrlculum in l ll ' 1 l' 1 P ll ll 4 I ll X xi 1 1' ' .
