Entering high school was an awesome experience. But, from the first to the one-hundred-and-eighty-second day, a great modification occurred. Those awkward greenies have become accomplished pupils who have adapted to their surroundings. Much credit must be given to their teachers. The spon- taneity of friendliness and warmth set the class at ease and prompted it to begin the four years correctly. On this foundation a class can build successfully. President . .. .. . BIG THREE In our Senior year there were three major activities, un- forgettable because of the hours of preparation and the pleasure of achievement. Each year the Senior class conducts a Magazine Campaign to raise funds to help pay for the yearbook. This year was no exception. The Seniors were divided into two teams. In the two weeks of the competitive campaign, hard work was done by both students and Mr. Buell, who so graciously gave his time and effort. In conclusion, the losing Black team was host at the Magazine Campaign Dance. The en- tertainment and dancing were enjoyed by all after com- pleting a tremendous task. On the nights of February 19 and 20, the Seniors presented their dramatic production, A Date with Judy. Set in the living room of the Foster home, the action captivated the audience from curtain rise to curtain call. The three-act comedy was a rewarding endeavor to both the class and the director. Climaxing our social events was the Senior Ball, the Mardi Gras, on May 29. Amid festive and artistic decorations we danced the evening away. The Coronation of the King and Queen was performed with dignity. From their gaily deco- rated thrones, the royal couple reigned over the ball. The hour of twelve arrived and the ball ended with the happi- ness of having had a wonderful time. Indeed, memories are made of this! 45 P Z ll FIRST ROW, Left to Right: L. Hil- den, E. Joy, C. Nothing better characterizes the team than Mr. Zakrewski's words at the assembly preceding the first game. He said, uThese boys are green but with their desire to fight and win 4 well, you never can tell. Tcrryville fans certainly could tell! After their first game against arch-rival Thomaston, thc boys were known as a scrappy crew who would bring home its share of victories. Terryville followers will always remember M LEFTY KOVALESKI as the play-maker and superb ball-handler, HLEO' NIACKIEYVICZ for his jump shots and style of rebounding, 'LRAYN KONOPASKE as the boy who pushed Terry- ville's victory over St. Anthony's in the tournament game, HHERBIER NORTON for being a big fac- tor in Terryville's win over Thomaston, UJACK7, PERKINS for his seemingly impossible side shots and valuable rebounds, JACK BERTNAGEL who will be a real threat against any team next year, 'JOHNNY' FETZKO as one of the most improved players on the team, DICK, HOFF- MAN as a little man with a lot of hustle, RAY MANAREL for his fine shooting-percentage, and UJOE' STEPHANSKI as the jayvec who gained a worthy berth on the varsity team --A OUR TEAM. Both Mr. Zakrewski, whom the boys thought of as their second father, and the gym, which was their second home, did much to make the team what it was. lPerk', takes his side-shot against LAHS. 1959 Tourney scores: Tvrryvillc 62 Hale-Ray 51 Terryville 63 St. Anthor1y's 47 Terryville 41 New Milford 40 Terryvillo -1-8 Ellsworth 49 Another two points are Chnlked up for T.H.S. in their win over H:1lcRz1y. In the first contest Terryville defeated Hale-Ray. The most remembered game, however, was the second, Terryville vs. St. Anthony's. Having been beaten by slight margins in their two regular-season games, Terryville turned the tables on the fifth-ranked Nsaintsw and surprisingly upset them. In the quarter-hnals two foul shots by Leon Maekiewicz clinched the victory of the Orange and Black over New lWilford High, which held a victory over the top-ranked team. The semi-Finals proved to be a nheartbreaker' with Terryville dropping a one- point decision to Ellsworth. Not realizing until early fall that there would be a varsity team, the boys worked hard to attain their Fine record. Along with their record, the boys brought respect for themselves and the school which they represented. Terry- ville students are very proud of their 1958-1959 gallant team. 0- if 'Tru ! , I A-t .A-Q sf z -wiser., Sue Ellen Switz Patty Stremel Sandy Barkclr Judy Oclsvhlegcl Betsey Johnson, Co-Captain Judy Nodinc F V i Patty Houlc Paula Hilda-n Carol Bovc Linda Hildcn, cap A MT for 'I'1'1'1'yx'illv 60 Advice from th? On May 19, 1958, the Terryville High School athletic field was officially named 'joe Jay Field. Both students and townspeople attended the dedication program held on the Field made by the boys on the 1958 Baseball Team. A plaque naming the Held was presented to the guest of honor by Julian Wojtusik, the 1957-58 president of the Athletic Association, while members of the cheerleading squad and the baseball team formed a guard of honor. The Joe Jay Field is a tribute to Mr. Jay, a science teacher in our school, who had served as baseball and basketball coach for more than twenty years, resigning in 1955. A guest speaker said that Mr. Jay after teaching five classes a day would spend several hours in coaching his boys. Transportation to all of the games was Mr. Jay's responsibility, also. Today, Mr. Jay's proteges are widely known as good sportsmen and proficient ath- letes. May these qualities serve as the ideals of the boys who will use the njoe Jay Field. 67 'KAW rrTI?T7jlL'lll6, my Terryville, Our Alma Maier true, To thee we .sing our praise Day after day.
