Parker coreT'Tn Finar Seconds To Earn 6-6 Tie Against Hastings By RAY CRAWFORD Timea-Unlon Sports Writer Terry Parker battled back for touchdown In the final 48 seconds to gain a 6-6 tie with Hastings’ Spudsters in a fiercely fought, muddy Gator Bowl football battle last night before slightly more than 1,500 rain-soaked spectators. The tying touchdown was a real breathtaker that had Terry Parker's crowd wondering for an instant whether or not the Braves had six points. The TD came when lullback Fred Padgett recovered . halfback EUls Johnson's 46-7. last week. Padgett had a chance to break the 6-6 deadlock with an extra Lnt kick but he was rushed the conversion attempt lek went low under .Quart - on I and fell on it for a touchdown. The only other scoring threat was by Terry Parker In the second perod. Johnson returned Jerry Masters’ kickoff from the Parker 20 to Hastings’ 49 to start the Braves surging hack after Hastings’ touchdown. Coach Aaron Brown’s young- sters ground out a first down at the Hastings 14. But four plays later the Braves had to give up the ball on the nine as the Spud-sters’ line turned In a brilliant defensive stand. Marcus Barnes was a standout for the Spudsters with his running. kicking and all-round lead- ership on the field. Hastings had a 1(M) record last season and won its opener this year.
