EDMUNDS Jr., USN LCDR Frank L. EDMUNDS Jr., USN, a native of Norfolk, Virginia, was born on 17 March, 1931. Enlisting in the Navy in May 1948 he served in a variety of ships and stations until March of 1958 when he attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and upon completion was commissioned an Ensign, U.S. Navy. LCDR EDMUNDS was first assigned to duty as an officer aboard USS CANBERRA QCAG 25 where he served as Assistant Missile Officer. In January 1961 as a Lieu- tenant ljg5 he reported for duty in USS VOGELESANG QDD 8625 where he served as Gunnery Officer until January 1963. While attending U.S. Naval Destroyer School in New- port Rhode Island, he was promotedto Lieutenant on 1 June 1962. During the following two years he served in USS SELLERS QDDG 115 as Weapons Officer. In July 1964 he commenced a three year tour as a Weapons Instructor at Destroyer School in Newport where he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander on 1 January 1967. After detach- ment from Destroyer School in June 1967 he was assigned as Executive Officer of USS HUGH PURVIS QDD 7095.
