Terre- bonne Parish was the Hrst in the state to organize a pure-bred Hereford calf project for 4-H Club members in 1922. 4-H Club is a cooperative program with the U.S.D.A.. Louisiana State University. State Department of Edu- cation, the Experiment Station and the cooperation of voluntary local leaders in the schools. The main purpose of 4-H Club work is to help boys and girls be- come efficient. public-spirited, and useful citizens. This is done by guidance programs in the improve- ment of farm, home. and neighbor- hood practices in such a way that both rural and urban youth are brought ill contact with the best ol each environment. .fltidrarcy The organization formed to render library services to students and teachers at T.H.S. is the Terrebonne Teen-Age Library Club. All members are required to assist in the library an average of a half hour a day. In addition to their routine duties, stu- dent assistants carry on a special li- brary project eaoh session. The club is affiliated with the Louisiana Teen-Age Library Associa- tion and sends delegates to the an- nual fall meeting on the campus of Louisiana State University. T.H.S. membership in the F. T. Nichols Chapter of this organization entitles all student assistants to attend the annual spring meeting held at differ- ent locations within the tive parishes that comprise the district. Social activities are the Christmas and end- of-the-year parties usually held at the home of one of the club members. Through service to the school stu- dent assistants, not only increase their knowledge of libraries but also learn the value of helping others.
