This has brought to all students in the parish the many advantages of a large school and to the community an economical investment in education. It, has made for a spirit of solidarity in the people of the parish. said Mr. Bour- geois, and has converted Terrebonne Parish into one Community. Consolidation depends on transporta- tion. 1n 1908 and for years after, some pupils in the parish had to be trans- ported by boat because Terrebonne is bayou country. The tirst consolidations in the parish occurred in 1910-1911. The idea of riding to school appealed to children and patrons alike. In that year four transfers were placed in operation and an era of consolidation began. Today. in 1958, thirty-two transfers transport ap- proximately 1.000 children to and from school each day.
