1 1 Boys Basketball Mr Charles Le Blanc basketball coach announced that the basketball season would begrn December 18 About 45 bovs reported for practrce and at the end of two weeks Mr Le Blanc chose the 12 best plavers He worked them hard and taught them varrous plavs and drfferent tactrcs used rn a screntrfrc game He organrzed two teams one as good as the other On lanrrarv 15 the frrst season game was plaved on the Houma court agamst Morgan Crtv The T H S bovs exhlbrted a well played game walkrng off the court Xrctorrous to the tune of 19 15 The followrng dav Coach Le Blanc and Assrstant Coach Snrrth showed the boxs therr errors The whole squad nrofrted bv therr mrstakes After practrce that dav Mr Le Blanc called a meetrng of the basketball souad He told them of hrs regrets for havrng to leave the team Due to some personal busrness he had to turn the team over to Mr Smrth On Januarv 19 our bovs plaved a game agarnst the L T team We fought hard rntl the end but at the frnal whrstle our opponents were ahead wrth a score of 20 5 On the 26th dav of lanrrarv we plaved St Charles and were agarn defeated rn a close nad ev rtrng game bv the tune of 13 11 Wrth a lrttle practrr-e the T H S were vrctorrous wrth a score of 28 22 The Terrebonne bovs rourneved to St James on Februarx 4 Here we were rgarn defeated ?4 14 After frve days practrce the team was ready to grve L T a return game Vie plaved a thrrllrng and excrtrng game and when rt was over we were ahead vsrth a sr-me of 111 12 The T H S souad went to St Charles on February 14 where we were defeated 2514 Then our squad had to grve therr old rrval a return game so we rourneved to Thrbodaux on February 16 Here the boys played another screntrfrc game but lost rt by a score of 21 17 After nlawrng four strarght games awav from home the T H S boys decrded to have a return game wrth St James We played hard and were vrctorrous wxrth a score of 28 23 The team played therr closrng game rn Morgan Crty on February 20 The rrver squad could not get off therr feet and the Terrebonne boys won 23 9 The season was closed and the tournament was the only thrng left On February 23 and 24 the T H boys plaved rn the Drstrrct Tournament held rn Lutcher After hard frghtrng we were awarded frfth place The erght bovs who played the greatest number of quarters were awarded a sweater wrth the school letter on rt Those recervrng sweaters were Charles Talbot Iours Talbot Carrol Talbot Rlvers Breaurc Jr E J Hebert Donald Grrorr Russell Bergeron and Captarn Leonce Dorron Fortunately most of these boys rsrll be back on the team next year , 5' 7 boys challenged their rival. Girls Basketball The grrls basketball team of thrs year has almost reached rts goal They were wrthout a doubt the best basketball team Terrebonne has ever produced' The fact that the grrls were vrctorrous rn everv game except one marks 1929 40 as a most uccessful and outstandmg season Then red Jo key srlk surts wrth the gold Trgers' wrrtten across the front were really somethmg to see The warm corduroy warm up surts were mr hty comfortable too Last year Thrbodaux was the only team that defeated them by a score of 21 Z5 but proud were our grrls when they trrumphed over therr old rrval thrs year On March 1 full of enthusrasrn and confldence they Journeyed to Lutcher to capture the drstrret trtle Durrng the tournament the frrst two games were won but the eam was defeat d by Westwego ln the thrrd game Thrs put them rn a tough spot nd made them frght harder All the other games were won and the Trgerettes were up agarnst another old rrval Donaldsonvrlle rn the flnals The forwards made good hots from all angles and posrtrons Thrs seemed to startle the Donaldsonvrlle guards By playrng to the best of therr abrlrty the guards kept the Donaldsonvrlle forwards down VVhen th frnal whlstle blew the score was 25 14 thus makrng the Tlf,l'QIQtt6S the wrnners of the South Central Drstrrct There was never a happrer team of grrls than ours after thrs great game' Gold basketballs were awarded to all the players on the team Thrs was the frrst tvme that the Trgerettes had ever won the Drstrret Champlonshrp Thrs year the Breaux two forwards made the frrst all star team wrth Ruby Bernard Jean Ber geron and Kathleen Worden rnakrng the second Wlareh 9 was another brg day for the Cagers because they were to play rn the state tournament at Baton Rouge They were all rn hrgh sprrrts as they left for the eaprtal erty In the frrst game they defeated Vmton by a large seore but they farled to defeat the strong LaGrange team Beautrful crrmson Jackets wrth gold Ts were the awards for then fme work 'md hard truggles The glrls who recerved them were Captarn Kathleen Blanchard hate Breaux lheresa Hrmel Kathleen Worden Rubv Bernard Jean Bergeron Stella Dreyer Lottre burdry and Nlae Duplantrs Next year should be another brg year for the Trgerettes as therr only loss wrll be therr captarn who rs graduatrng Frne players are eomrng IH from the rural drstrrets so there rs stlll a chance for the team to reach thelr foal the state ehampronshrp The eredrt for the outstandmg success of thls team goes to Mrs Johnny Stell who has spent a great deal of her tlme and patlence rn trarnrng the Cagers J' 9 r ' ' ' ' L ' . r v' x 1 ry 5 I A . . .' - .
