THE TERREBONNE MIRROR ,ff , THE NEW TERREBONNE HIGH SCHOOL Our dream has been fulfrlledl After years of constant plannrng and estrma tlon the school board has grven us the full partrculars of rts project rncludlng a burldrng' freld and land the entrre cost of vwhrch rs at present S775 631 Of thrs amount the federal government has made a grant of S323 091 and the balance wrll be frnanced by the parrsh school board wrthout addrtronal taxatron Thrs pr oJect rs drvrded rnto three parts namely the athletrc freld foundatron for the burldrng proper and the superstructure For the athletrc freld a contract was awarded Mr Herrrran T Makofsky Thrs freld whrch rncludes the latest specrfr catrons coverrng frelds rn Amerrca has been accepted by the board It rs made up of a quarter mrle crnder track surrounded by a concrete curb varrous prts for Jumps and an excellent football freld The foundatron of the burldrng proper IS now completed and cost approxr mately S40 000 The contractor Lronel F Favret was also awarded the contract for the burldrng proper the audrtorrum of vshrch has a seatrng capacrty of 1010 The burldrng' has a large bymnasrum verth the usual accommodatrons two large study rooms and a large cafeterra It has four batterres for laboratorres of varrous srzes shops for agrrcultural and rndustrral art and a large department of home economrcs When rndustrral art and donrestrc scrence are added to the general commercral and agrrcultural courses whrch we now have the hrgh school wrll offer the full state program The burldrng rs of frre proof constructron made of face brrck and Indrana lrmestone rn serres lrnes Thrs burldrng coverrng' 20 acres must be completed wrthrn eleven months by the contractor It rs expected that rt wrll be ready for occupancy rn September 1940 The present hrgh school enrollment of Terrebonne Hrgh rs 758 and of the country schools 149 When all these are brought to Houma they wrll be easrly accommodated rn the new burldrng whrch has a capacrty of from 1100 to 1300 students Thrs magnrfrcent burldrng project whrch was started rn the fall of 1938 rs another step toward hrgher educatron We are rateful to the school board and to Mr Bourgeors for therr splendrd work rn promotmg a sprrrt of progress The new brgger and better Terrebonne Hrgrh School wrll be one of the frnest rn the Unrted States not only for rts beauty but also for rts academrc equrpment TERREBONNE HIGH SCHOOL . .
