'lfwdlenl' H. C. Light OBLIGATIONS OF A HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES may be inclined to take for granted the privilege of attending high school. Is there not the assumption of obligations by those who have thus profited under our social order? It might be well to discover what the high school graduate would acknowledge to be his obligations. Perhaps he will be willing to recognize his continued obligations to his community by agreeing to the following suggestions for incorporation in his personal code of action: if I believe in the sanctity of the human individual and in the equality of all persons, regardless of race, religion or color. if I believe that the continued strength and growth of our nation requires opportunities for life-long education of all our people. , IF The public school system, with the best-trained teachers, and curriculum offerings to meet the widest needs, will require constant expansion and adaptation to changing needs, and I shall do my utmost to bring this about. 'F I shall continue my education after I leave school, through my own efforts. ft My efforts will be directed to the adoption of a praiseworthy financial plan for meet- ing the material needs of the schools. ff I shall work to the end that children in all sections of the United States may be pro- vided with educational opportunities equal to the best in the nation. 'O' I shall take every opportunity to give credit to the schools for the successes they have achieved. if Henceforth, my definition of education will not be narrow and traditional but of the breadth required to make the American way of life possible for all children from all kinds of homes. ff My constant effort will be to keep free public education foremost among the institu- tions of our land so that the American way of life can be assured of permanence.
