Her vitality is inex- haustible, as is her clever wit. Mademoiselle is truly daring on a horse, on the hockey field, and in many types of sports. She has a definite philosophy of life which tends to make her enioy this old world, despite its many ills and woes. 4-Miss Carolyn Blank Miss Blank has been trying to dis- prove that old adage There is nothing new under the sun, for creating new ideas is her hobby. She has originated the Handicraft Club and contributed many con- structive ideas to the Girl Reserves. Not only can she stir up new schemes but also luscious cakes and stunning clothes. She has cer- tainly proved herself a valuable addition to our school. 2-Mr. Philip iBudl Heil Bud Heil came to T. P. as coach and gym class instructor in l942. A valuable first string football player and light heavyweight boxing champion for three years at the University of Cincinnati, Bud is well-suited for this work. He has maintained very high standards of sportsmanship, in- stilling in his students a love for clean sports and fair play as well as a desire to win. 5-Miss Eleanor Gallagher Always light and gay, even dur- ing her classes, Miss Gallagher has that certain something that keeps her students in the best of spirits at all times. Her high in- telligence in commercial subiects has been the reason for the suc- cess of many boys and girls in the business world. The Class of '45 will always remember their many happy experiences in her home room. I4 3-Miss Lucille Grubbs A new Southern drawl has been noticed around the halls of T. P. this year. The owner, Miss Grubbs, is young, blonde, and friendly. She has succeeded in capturing the hearts of her seventh grade pupils, especially Steve and Irvin, who enliven her classes. Among her accomplishments is the art of cooking, missing busses, and mak- ing friends, especially one cer- tain Dan, her fiance. 6-Mrs. Cleon Dickens lf we students were grading our teachers on the three musts, school, home, and church, Mrs. Dickens would rate very high in all three. She gives much of her time to directing a choir and playing the organ, and she keeps the home fires burning for her hus- band, and her son, who is in the U. S. Army. We all know her in school for her conscientiousness and her patience with us. 'I Miss Florence Locke She came she saw she con quered this could very well be referring to Mlss Locke our new language teacher Her sweet dls position and her calm discipline have done much to create a pleas an atmosphere ll of er classes Her shy manner has In trlgued her students and has proved effective In creating Inter est In their work both In and out of the classroom 4 Mrs Evelyn Robinson Mrs Robinson actually leads a double life for she manages to keep house for her husband and seven-year old son and at the same time teach English to our underclassmen. The iunior class keeps her busy too- as their ad- viser Mrs. Robinson managed the prom with such outstanding suc- cess that she has completely won the gratitude and appreciation of the pupils of her iunior class. 1.-...qw i 2 Miss Jean Soth Miss Soth has the combined qual ities of Job and Solomon which are without doubt necessary to hold the position of sophomore adviser Although she IS a strlct dlsclpllnarlan she is always ready for a good laugh with her stu dents at any time Not only is she a brilliant scholar in mathematics but also a brilliant first baseman on the championship softball team' 5 Mass Frances Wright Not another basket' Ohhl Miss Wright has done ll again t hig school gir s w' vouch for her unerring aim on the b s etball floor d all he seventh and eighth graders will agree that she s an A-l person. Miss Wright has quite an amazing a set-her famous car. It s parts from Cadillac and Crosley, purple seat-covers, and a fabulous record for service. l5 3 Mass Louise Abel Our competent art teacher was born ln Germany and has studled much In forelgn lands She has proved herself a real artlst by carrying off many scholarships and prizes for her work Under Miss Abels guidance our art classes are learning the funda mentals of sketching and paint Ing Her name IS cl key to her per sonallty and we feel very for tunate to have her with us 6 Mr Jay Leming Our male population is In the minority and one of the out standing leaders of th's little r up is M. Leming-one t whom the boys confide their griev- ances and ill-doings. Mr. Leming has combined a peaceful farm life with the skill of diplomatically managing boys in their teens. The graduates aiding Uncle Sam in- variably return to tell Jay Lem- ing of their experiences. D106 1-Mrs. Ruth Shackleford Mrs. Shackleford is one of Terrace Park's loyal supporters although she comes from the camp of a friendly rival, Plainville. She is constantly teased about her ac- cent la mixture of Southern drawl and New England clip.l The mother of three boys, Mrs. Shackleford has certainly gained remarkable experience, both in teaching and understanding. 4-Mrs. Mildred McCracken Folk songs, folk dancing, folk lore. -No, this isn't a trade name. lt is Mrs, McCracken's fav- orite pastime, while Bach, Revel, and Gershwin are her favorite composers. Along with her choral work she instructs our budding in- strumentalists in everything from the bass horn to the clarinet. Her husband, Lt. Charles McCracken, is a psychologist in the Army Air Forces. 2-Miss Elizabeth Philhower The lady with the innumerable friends-that's Miss Philhower. Few women master the sciences and intricate m ath problems, therefore, we take off our hats to Miss Philhower for producing en- gineers and mathematicians who have brought their alma mater honorable mention. She has popu- larized the Girl Reserves and made it a traditionally respected club. 5-Miss Susan Hance If you're not careful, l'll turn you over my checked apron! But be- neath this threatening manner lies the kindly and understanding na- ture of Miss Hance. Disabled as she was by a broken arm, our blue-eyed science teacher has proved herself indispensable in running the movie proiector, the phonograph, and even-once in an emergency-changing a tire! 16 3--Mrs. Ethel lnnis One of the best liked stand-bys in Terrace Park is no other than Mrs. lnnis, our English teacher. We've come to depend not only on her knowledge concerning lit- erature and grammar, but also on her judgment and experience that often comes in handy. Much of her spare time has been given to mak- ing the annual and the Bulldog a success during the past several years. 6-Mrs. Jeanette Moore Mrs. Moore, with her quiet gentle way, stayed iust long enough to recruit a large All-Hi group. Then she resigned to devote all her energies to her family. Her hus- band is an outstanding musician who entertained us at the prom. She made many friends in her short stay, and gave to her pupils an unusually fine appreciation of the music she loved so well. Edith lor is it Lataine?l keeps us all guessing with her many aliases. Unlike most seniors, she manages to keep out of hot water and she is never found guilty of any of the senior pranks. She has a weakness for trumpets and gobs. lEspecially one certain sailor.l Helping to speed victory, Edith works in a machine shop after school. She's easy to get acquainted with and her sense of humor makes her good company, as many close friends will testify. She has an ambition to be a cadet nurse, and at present is making plans for college. . I A l o I I ,., L VIRGINIA LEE APPLEGATE ' I I . Put a dash of vitality, a pinch of humor, a grain of attractiveness, and a gram of bookfsnatching and you'll have a delicious little dish usually referred to as Apple alias Ginny Applegate. Apple gracefully plays for- ward on our basketball team during gym periods. Her vitality makes her a real character. The fact that Ginny adores attractive and expensive clothes may enable her to go through with her desire to have her own exclusive fashion shoppe. MAURINE .IEANNETTE BASINGER Spanish Club 3, 4, President 45 All-Hi 4, Secretary 45 Scholarship 3, 45 Annual Staff 45 G. A. A. 3, 45 Girl Reserves 45 Commercial Club 45 English Club 45 Senior Scholarship. Coming to Terrace Park in her iunior year, Maurine has entered enthusiastically into whatever plan was in the making. Always smiling and cheerful, her ultimate ambition is to travel and see the world. Her ability with languages influences her desire to be an interpreter. Her air of helplessness makes everyone want to look after her. She always has an eye out for mischief and amuses her friends with her quick sense of humor. . 20 -'nf ' I I , . frffr .Senianzs VIRGINIA ANN BEEKLEY Spanish Club I, 2, Class Secretary 4, Girl Reserves I, 2, 3, 4, Commercial Club 2, 3, 4, Treasurer 4, All-Hi 2, Bulldog Staff 2, Annual Staff I, 2, 4, Scholarship 3, G. A. A. 3, 4, Cheerleader I, 2, 3, 4, Captain 4, English Club 4, Senior Scholarship. Blessed with a certain innocence, she believes iust anything, this often leads to her downfall. As captain and three year members of our cheerleaders, she and her pals have done marvelous work for T. P. in stirring up pep. As class secretary, Jinny has been tops, in addi- tion to this she is Miss Gallagher's right hand man. Although she likes T. P. immensely, her chief interest seems to be in Milford. II CAROL ANN BINDER Latin Club 2, 3, Secretary 3, Dido and Aeneas I, Symphony Club I, Girl Reserves I, 2, 3, 4, Treasurer 3, President 4, Commercial Club 4, All-Hi 2, 3, 4, Bulldog Staff I, 3, Annual Staff 2, 4, G. A. A. 3, Library 3, 4, Cheerleader 2, Spring Revue 3, English Club 4, Senior Scholarship. Because of her endless collection of interesting stories and witty sayings, one delights in having her near. She is sweet in every sense of the word. Whenever someone asks for volunteers to help on a committee, Carol is always the first to offer her services. As president of the Girl Reserves, she has shown her efficiency. This poem might well describe her: With laughing eyes and sunny hair, Without a sorrow or a care. I f y I ' V I BETTY LOU BOWERSOCK ' Spanish Club I, 2, Secretary 2, Symphony Club I, Girl Reserves I, 2, 3, 4, Commercial Club 2, 3, 4, President 4, All-Hi 2, 3, Bulldog Staff 2, 3, Annual Staff 3, 4, Editor 4, Associate Editor 3, Quill and Scroll 3, 4, Scholarship I, 2, 4, G. A common sight seen dashing down the halls with blonde hair flying and her precious Terrace Parker tucked under her arm is Betty Annual Bowersock. She has an infectious giggle, a sarcastic wit, and a craze for boogie woogie. She has yet to find some spare time as she is always wrapped up in something. 2l , ' 1 ' nyx' sf 1 fl, y . J gy , ow. Blue eyes, blonde hair, and always out at noon is a quick description of Marge Buschmeier. You can usually find her chasing down the hall iust before the tardy bell hoping to be in time for English class. A sunny smile and a cheery hello for everyone are two very good reasons for her popularity. Another is her unusual flair for danc- ing. lShe is one of the few who can really cut a rug. l ln Marge's iunior year, she was secretary of the Home Ec. Club and treasurer her fourth year because of her aptitude for figures. MARGARET ANN COLLIER G. A. A. 4, Girl Reserves 4, Bulldog Staff 4, Annual Staff 4, Spanish Club 4, Library Staff 4, English Club 4, Quill and Scroll 4, Senior Scholarship. Peg, a witty little ditty, quick on the trigger, never caught off guard, and always ready with a snappy comeback, came to us her senior year from Mentor High near Cleveland. Peg is not only clever and cute but is one of our brainy students, an ace at physics. She was advertising manager of the Bulldog. Capable physically as well as mentally, Peg was star guard on the girls' basketball team. She has many admirers, including a life-time friend in the service overseas. 'Ge wifi? Good humor, plus! That's Frank. Whenever there's something going on, you can bet your last dollar that Frank has something to do with it, or so say the teachers. Omitting the faculty, Frank gets along with everyone. His favorite pastime other than conversing with the opposite sex is reading. If it's true what they say about laughing's adding to one's life, Frank will live to a ripe old age. 22 2 SEHLURA VIRGINIA HELEN DONLEY Latin Club I, 2, Annual Staff 4, Dido and Aeneas I, Class Treasurer 4, Commercial Club 3, 4, Vice President 3, G. A. A. 3, 4, Secretary 3, 4, English Club 4. Virginia is truly an outdoor girl, her main interest being horseback riding, which she does expertly. A dead shot on the basketball floor, Virginia is secretary-treas- urer for G. A. A. She is another on our list of Navy admirers. Her serene disposition and winning smile will be remembered long after she has left us. Virginia las she insistsl and Bernice are a model of the perfect friendship, for they never seem to disagree. DOROTHY JEAN DORITY Latin Club 2, Home Ec. Club I, 2, 3, 4, President 3, G. A. A. 3, 4, All-Hi 4, Commercial Club 4, English Club 4. Another whiz at basketball is Dot Dority, a very loyal student of T. P., a dependable person with a pleasant personality. ls it any wonder she's well liked by all her classmates? Dot is not only loyal to T. P. but patriotic, proof of which is shown by her up-keep of the morale of the armed forces by regular writing. She has added spice to many school clubs by her activities. Following the example of many of our students, Dot intends to serve her country by entering the Cadet Nurse Corps. A girl with her fingers in every pie, Bernice has her share of beauty, poise, and intelligence. With that natural gift for writing and getting things done she has made us all sit up and notice those newsy Bulldogs, She is very much interested in entering the service ofthe Allied Military Government in Europe. Her ease in drawing pretty girls is known far and wide. Not only has she the ability to dream up original sketches but she also has a knack for composing iingles. Helen has also made herself indispensible in the commercial department. That is the S64 question and the answer is Jan with her variegated top-knot. Taking care of senior concessions and dancing are two of Jan's favorite hobbies and how she does love to talk! As president of the '45 class in their iunior year, Jan showed us a successful and exciting time. Janet loves to write, and she has quite a bit of talent. 24 Senionls EDWARD ORSON HILL Hi-Y 2, 3, 4, Baseball I, Annual Staff 2, 3, 4, Bulldog Staff 3, 4, Latin Club l, 2, French Club 3, 4, Vice Presi dent 4, Dido and Aeneas I, Defense Stamps 3, Scholar- ship 2, English Club 4, Senior Scholarship. Eddie is a working man, and since his iob keeps him busy, he hasn't much time for school sports, however, he does his share of the work in the Bulldog, the Hi-Y, and the French Club. His pride and ioy is his little flivver which never seems to be equipped with sufficient gas or tires. Quite a iitterbug, Ed likes to step out with the girls rang- ing from alumnae and student nurses to sophomores, and is popular with all of them. Through her ability to sew, Faye was chosen to repre- sent Terrace Park on the High School Sewing Board at Shillito's. But her talents are not limited to sewing, she has an excellent voice. She has taken an active part in All-Hi and has entertained us with solos on several occasions. Being cheerful and good-natured she makes friends easily. Her ambition is to study voice at the Conservatory of Music, where she will doubtless bring distinction to her school. WILLIAM ROBERT KING President 4. its xi-' ' W 'S if sg. ,M bn 4 ' Q W W '53-9 . Always witty and gay, Ruth shows her school spirit by attending every football and basketball game at home or away. Interested in mechanics, Dan is better known as The Boy. He has a great sense of humor and laughs at almost anything, this usually gets him into a iam. Speak- ing of trouble, Dan seems to be always in the thick of things. In Dan's mind the other pasture is the greenest. He is also noted for his distinctive voice, which he will exhibit at almost any time or place. Taking many solo parts, Dan has added much to our musical productions. He was especially good as a minstrel in the '44 Spring Revue, although we could hardly recognize him in blackface. Eileen, usually smiling and quiet, often entertains her friends by playing the piano and singing, as she knows the words of nearly every popular song. Since she is proficient at dictation, she leads the shorthand class in speed. We predict that she will someday be a private secretary to some important captain of industry, for her commercial studies will give her a good background for stenographic work. Not long ago, Eileen surprised her classmates by becoming engaged to a resident of a rival camp, Loveland.
