BETTER THAN EER Practice, confidence, dedication, and getting along are the key ingredients in measuring up to good spirit squads. Better than ever was used as the overall theme for both song girl and cheerleader squads. U.S.A. Camp in Sacramento is held every year as sort of a get acquainted time for cheergirls everywhere. Both squads attended camp July 28-31 to show their spirit as a team. They received many excellent and superior ribbons, a spirit stick, and also a certificate of achievement. Omega Rally was another competition entered by both squads, held at the Neighborhood Church, October 24. Work- ing hard during summer and throughout the school year, the girls sponsored carwashes, dances and various different sales. Two thou- sand, five hundred dollars had to be raised in order for the girls to attend the competition in Santa Monica, Ca., the Miss Drill Team U.S.A. Pageant. Five hundred additional dollars was paid by each girl for uniforms and other miscellaneous expenses through the year. Time was an important dedication made by each girl to their squads as three hours per day were practiced during summer and school, The squads advisors were Mrs. Mattos, Guy Andrade, Deverie Andrade, and Yvonne. Both groups are very together as a spirit squad, not as individual groups. People don't realize how much tense and hard work is involved, commented head song girl Karyn Johnson. Two year veteran Maria Mattos concluded, Enthusiasm, a winning team and winning spirit squads are what it takes to get a crowd going. 26t'Song Girls and Yell Leaders
