BAC TO BASICS English is needed for every human who lives in the U.S. to be informed and to communicate with others. For the last couple of years teachers have been stressing the basics of reading and writing, which these abilities are needed by each student to graduate, from Tennyson High School. Mrs. Frances Gibson commented, English is the cen- tral subject we teach here. If students learn to commu- nicate well, and how to use the library so they can always find what they need to know, they have the tools to become educated. Humanities teacher, Dan Morrison, was also quoted as saying, You don't appreciate your language until you go to a foreign country, and you want to be understood. English should be important to us because it is a tool that can open doors and create relationships. We use it to express our feelings and our dreams. Sometimes we use it to hurt others. English is the bridge that helps me teach you all. 98X English

LET THERE BE HISTORY . . . Four score and seven years ago, the great Lancer in the sky said, Let there be history. And there was. But to keep history from being boring he created U.S. Histo- ry, Comp. History, Guidance and Health. But this wasn't enough so he created American Government with family living, psychology, criminal justice and po- litical science. Yet history doesn't teach itself so the great Lancer asked for the best teachers in the universe and sent them down to earth to teach the best subject in the world, HISTORY! Mr. Pinto commented about one of these subjects, Gov- ernment, and he said, The study of the structure, institutions and operation of how we govern ourselves. He added, The acquiring of knowledge of how our government is structured and operates is one of the most important tasks confronting a high school stu- dent. Directly and indirectly, our lives and our environ- ment are effected by the actions of government at all levels, federal, state and local. The great Lancer did a great deed to the world when he created history, and the Social Studies teachers go through alot of work to teach students. And most of the students may not become President but at least they learn a little about History and Government. Mr. Pin- to's closing lines were The sad things are when stu- dents make mistakes, but the funny things are when I make mistakesf' X -is tg, cj' . . I ' - .
