The mountains are His thoughts in height; the streams are His thoughts extended. The flowers are the expression of His loveliness, and the trees are monuments of His infinite being. All these He made to reflect Himself—the God of creation—the Saviour of the world. Chattanooga abounds in this natural beauty that arouses in the appreciative soul a recognition of the eternal beauty of Christ. 1 so | | | 4 ne ccc EEE eeEeaeeeeeeeee_A_rae—aaeaeeeeee ee During the Civil War, Chattanooga and the surrounding areas were very strategic battlegrounds. When Chattanooga fell, the barrier to the South was overrun, bringing the beginning of the end to the War Between the States. Today Chattanooga is still a strategic location, because here in the midst of historic landmarks, battlefields, and monuments is located Tennessee Temple Schools—a training camp for Christian soldiers. Victory demands preparedness. Just as in war, a soldier that is unprepared is susceptible to defeat, we as Christians may fall as casualties unless we are fully equipped to meet the battles of our lives. The Word of God is the road map for our daily walk. Jesus being our example, we are to pattern our lives after Him and . . . follow in his steps.’ And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. (Luke 2:52) This verse presents the four aspects of the human life . . . intellectual .. . physical . . . spiritual . . . social. These four aspects, when added to the scales of our lives in the cor- rect proportion, result in a balanced life. Students of Temple are trained to be well-rounded individuals, and a balance to life is maintained through education in four di- mensions .. . intellectual . . . social .. . physical .. . spiritual. CONFESSION OF FAITH We believe in the verbal inspiration and authority of the Scriptures. We believe that the Bible re- veals God, the fall of man, the way of salvation, and God's plan and purpose in the ages. We be- lieve in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We believe in the Deity and virgin birth of Jesus Christ. We believe that salvation is by grace’ plus nothing and minus nothing. The conditions to salvation are repentance and faith. We believe that men are justified by faith alone and are accounted righteous before God only through the merit of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We believe in the visible, personal, and premillennial return of Jesus Christ. We believe in the everlasting conscious blessedness of the saved and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost. , Za eS %, YY I, ff 1 D , ye FeezE ee ap Ta 1 WN 2 Lh GE VF MI Nie Ai iy a a ACADEMICS DEDICATION ADMINISTRATION FACULTY STAFF HONOR STUDENTS STUDENT BODY OFFICERS SCHOOLS VY LX, at y, 4 ENDOWMENT They walked into the silent, crimson dawn: Two minds, two hearts, that thought and beat as one— The sun arose to kiss the golden sand As they stood there engulfed by sea and sky. There came a quiet voice that spoke to them: | am the sea that represents all life, And now | wish to give you of myself. The snow-capped tide flowed in, and then it ebbed To leave a host of shells upon the beach— Minute and gleaming in the morning sun. The kindred minds and hearts picked up the first To find engraved on it: “Yours Knowledge is; Use it to banish darkness from young minds— Use it as food to nourish ihose young minds. A second shell dropped Wisdom at their feet, And brought these ageless words before their eyes: Dear ones, | am that wisdom that you seek; Take me, and | shall elevate your souls Up to the crest of every wave | make.’ Then close beside the lovely wisdom shell The angel shell of Understanding lay— And there by it they found the shell of Love. They gathered them into their eager hands, And thanked the boundless ocean for its gifts. Dear hearts, | wish to show you one thing more— For without it my gifts amount to nought. The endless tide flowed in again to ihem, And from its foam there rose a battered cross. Without this cross all else is but in vain' '— And with these words the ocean depths were hushed. The most outstanding asset of this year's team has been its refusal to become discouraged. The improvement of the team has been the result of much practice and hard work. The Crusaders were invited to participate in a tournament at Lee College. In this tourna- ment, as well as throughout the rest of the season, the team provided much excitement for Temple's students. Football As the city league football season ended this year, our team was in second place. The competition was stiff, and our team was faced with many hard battles. By partici- pating in league bowling, the team comes in contact with many people with whom they can leave a testimony for the Lord. Bowling, i although not a major sport, is becoming a central part of Temple's sports program. Track ) Although lacking experience and depth, the track team worked hard to develop its potential. Participation in cross-country and city track meets gave the team good experience. With continuous efforts our track team will be developed into a solid organization. The team, although young, was a strong contender in several meets. This sport offers many students a chance to participate, sponsoring an intramural meet in the spring. Soccer Of all our minor sports, soccer is the most popular and best- established. The team played not only city league ball but also competed against various colleges. This year's team was one of the best in Temple's history. Our international students are a great asset to the team. AMBROSE OLIVER Co-Captains Tim pulls a rebound for Spurgeon Hall. His ministry, however, does not end here. Although ninety-two years of age, he continues to travel, preach, and sing. The Lord's care, which inspired his most famous song, is still his abiding theme. His life so manifests harmony with the Lord that those who are with him feel discords turn to harmony in their own lives. 'l will sing unto the Lord as long as | live; | will sing praise to my God while | have my being.’ Psalm 104:33. 127 A Cappella Choir And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it and fear and shall trust in God. Psalms 40:3. This verse was chosen by the A Cappella Choir in preparation for its annual tour. During the week the choir had opportunity to present the work of Temple Schools and to see souls come to the Saviour. In May the oratorio SAMSON by Handel was presented. The forty-two voices blended in Handel's beautiful melodies as they portrayed on the stage the closing hours in the life of Samson. The choir is under the direction of Mrs. Fred Brown whose capable leadership and dedicated ability are a challenge to all who know her. MRS. FRED BROWN, Director 128 A CAPPELLA BELLES A Cappell Coach A royal welcome for the choir D. C. Brown's All Stars A CAPPELLA QUARTET Tryouts for SAMSON???? The Glee Club Mr. James Palmer has molded this organization into a unit of well-blended voices. The presentation of Handel's MESSIAH was one of the major productions of the group. Accompanied by the orchestra, the beautiful strains of this masterpiece brought inspiration to the audience and honor and glory to our Saviour. Another highlight in the activities of the year was the spring tour of thirty-eight members of the Glee Club. This was a new experience in the history of the chorus as they represented Christ and the Schools in the Southern States. | will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever... MR. HYMAN APPLEMAN Mid-Winter Revival Second semester opened with the Mid-Winter Revival, giving students an opportunity to be renewed in the Lord. Jimmie Johnson's messages and Stratton Shufelt's songs awakened a new love for the Lord and a desire to serve Him. Two student-conducted pre-revival meetings were held dur- ing which students were shown that genuine revival comes only from the hearts of individuals. STRATTON SHUFELT Fall Revival Dr. Hyman Appleman, speaker for the Fall Revival, de- livered many forceful and dynamic sermons. Our spirits were strengthened, our faith uplifted, and our outlook broadened as we were privileged to hear this man of God. His messages, together with Ellis Zher's ministry in songs, were instrumental in making the Fall Revival a time of spiritual awakening. - ELLIS ZHER JIMMIE JOHNSON CoA AAAS cn AD a PAI TERE OCEANA NASR IA STEEL TO Missionary Conference The “Open Door'' 19th Annual Missionary Conference acquainted us with conditions and opportunities on the mis- sion fields today. Dr. Walter Hughes, our principal speaker, warned against trying to meet the spiritual wartime crisis with peacetime methods. Mel Johnson's solos and choir work added a musical missionary note. The daily missionary forum gave opportunity for students to direct pertinent questions to missionaries assembled from twenty-six boards. ae ¢ fee eee ye eS oh eee oe ee © DR. Warren Wiersbe, and Dr. Herbert Pugmire revealed to us many truths from the Word of God. To highlight the conference, some ten graduates of Ten- nessee Temple Schools directed the music, taught classes in the afternoons, and sang special numbers during the serv- ices. DR. H, J.
