Eagle Staff Selects Iattie Sue Cooper Emerson once stated, The only way to have a Iriend is to be one. Following this rule, Bliss Mattie Sue Cooper has become a friend to all who know her. Her maternal-like devotion to the students is manilested in her daily actions, which express the depth and sincerity of her personality. This year lor the second time, she has served as co-sponsor for the Pep Club and is sponsor lor the senior class. She has given unsellishly ol' her time and energy to almost every group on the campus at one time or another-as a chaperon lor the EAGLE-Orrulff picnic. as a substitute dormitory supervisor, as librarian, judge for debate competitions, and as advisor for homecoming floats. May Day activities or dance themes. A Tech graduate, Miss Cooper possesses the ability to gain the conlidence and the trust of those students whom she knows. She is never too busy to offer a word of encouragement. or to give a suggestion to those who need her. She can handle the problems of the uncertain fresh- man with the same deftness and ease with which she aids the more certain upperclassmen. Students, faculty, and alumni are equally im- pressed with her enthusiasm and love for Ten- nessee Tech and her sincere effort to be a friend to each student. She will be remembered for those multitudes of little kindnesses which she has performed for so many students. She has worked in the Tech Library since the Iall of l945. She is a member ol' the American University YVomen, honorary member ol' Phi Kappa Delta. speech fraternity. and a member ol the Tech Faculty XVomen's Club. ol' which she is a past treasurer.
