we igreaiclenf Acclaim for Techis progress should rightfully be directed to President Everett G. Derryberry, whose tireless and capable direction has achieved the great strides made in recent years. An ex- ample of the presidents ability to build at Tech for a better tomorrow may be seen especially in the achievements of the past four years, a period in which the college has made amazing growth, launching in 194-8 on a million dollar expansion program. ln 1950 Tech again moved forward on a new million dollar building program. Not every college has the honor of having a former Rhodes scholar as its president. President Derryberry graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Summa Cum Laude, in l928, and received his Master of Arts degree from Oxford University, Oxford, England, in l932. Students and alumni of Tennessee Tech salute their fourth President on the tenth anniversary of his able administration of the affairs of the in- stitution. we 0U2l'l'l0l' Governor Gordon Browning is indeed a friend to Education in Tennessee. In H148 he was elect- ed Governor for the second time, and by the larg- est majority ever given a gubernatorial candidate in the state. As Governor, he has sponsored and secured enactment of school legislation which in- creased appropriations for the state foundation program by approximately fourteen million dol- lars: increased aid to state colleges and the Uni- versity by more than two million dollars, increased teachers' salaries by ten million dollarsg included in the foundation program more than six million dollars for school plant construction and equip- mentg extended benefits for teacher retirementg and increased aid for other services such as vo- cational rehabilitation, vocational education, and regional libraries.
