CONSTRUCTION OF THE ULTIMATE MILLION DOLLAR BOY'S DORMITORY UNDERWAY D. R. Selley and Company, of Nashville, are constructing the first two units of 'l'ech's ultimate million dollar dormitory quad- rangle at a cost of 528,000 dollars. Both units of the dormitory project will be erected on the large lot on the corner of Seventh and TValnut Streets, the present site of XN'alnut Hall. The initial unit, to accommodate I52 men, will be situated between Seventh Street and the existing 11orth wing of Walnut Hall. The other, having a capacity of 148 men, is to be located just south of the present south wing of Hlalnut Hall and within the south boundary of the Tennessee Tech property line, adjacent to the home of Dr. Morehead. TWO-STORY U N IT The front unit, facing on Seventh Street, will be a two-story structure. A four story building to the rear will frame the main units when the layout ie. viewed from the quadrangle. The completely modern fireproof structures, designed by Architect Donald Southgate of Nashville. will be of brick, stone and tile construction. Each unit will be further subdivided into two complete sections, each of which will have its own reception room, office, recreation room. supervisor's apartment. laundry and trunk storage room. The laundries will be equipped with automatic washers. NEW ROOM ARRANGEMENT The dormitories are to be divided into two room suites. Each suite will provide sleeping quarters and private studies for two men, The suites have been designed so that one room will serve as a bedroom and the other a study room. Each student will have his own closet. desk and chest of drawers. There are to be two windows to each suite-one per room. There is to be an exceedingly high ratio of plumbing facilities per capita. The dormitories will be steam heated, employing heat convectors. .X new steam tunnel will connect the structures with the main heating plant. GREAT FACILITIES The massiveness of the new units is clearly evidenced by a com- parison with liast Hall, which with two men per room will house only 80 studentsg whereas the two new dormitories will accommodate a total of 300 men H52 to one unit and 148 in the otherj with two per room. The eventual plan for the completion of a men's dormitory quadrangle at an overall cost in excess of a million dollars, includes the erection of east and west wings. The capacity of the four dorm quadrangle, when completed, will be 600. Page Il

Annex, designed by arclzitzwt Donald Souilzgnte of Nashville. ANNEX WILL DOUBLE SOUTH HALL CAPACITY Hlork is progressing rapidly on the construction of the 200,000 dollar addition to South Hall. The completely modern Iireproof three-story U-shaped annex will be completed early next year and will ad-join the West side of South Hall, with a main entrance on the west ap- proach to the quadrangle. A spacious inner courtyard will be enclosed by the completed dormitory. The court will be accessible by a driveway on the west side of the annex. SIXTY ROOMS Sixty new rooms housing I20 women will more than double the present capacity of the building. A feature ol the newer structure will be attractive and spacious social rooms and recreation lounges. Practically planned laundry and trunk storage rooms are to be included in the basement. In addition there will be a new superina tendents' apartment. Page I0
