30 i 37 ! 3K5; 4-H.- - eTHANKs NICE JOEii The 1981 Tennessean SlaII would like to say good-by and thanks to Mr. Joe Zinn for numerous years of service as Yearbook Adviser, University Photographer and Graphics Artist. Nice Joe retired in January of 1981. Born in the Bedford-Styversant section of Brooklyn, he studied art at New York University. Joe broadened his interests in the Air Force when he drew cartoons and wrole columns for the base newspaper. After service duties he came to Peabody College where he earned the 13.8. and MA. in biology. He taughl biology and chemistry in high schools in Georgia and Florida. By the early 1950i5 his interest in art drew him away from teaching. He started in commercial art by writing copy and drawing for an adverlising agency. This led to a business of his own in displays for television. The next step was Nashville's first motion picture studio, Zinn Animation Studio from which he produced animated lelevisiun commercials. joeis most famous commercial, the Tennessee Pride animation that he did for Odom Farms. He wrote the jingle. and did the animation. The commercial ran from 1960 to 1978. Other commericials that he produced advertised products ranging from milk to banks. 114: made about two commercials before ciosing the studio and joining lhe staff here at TSU. Joe has staged three photo exhibits at the Parthenon as well as lobby diSpIays for some sixly-five lucal theatre productions. In an interview about his theatrical work, Nashville Magazine slated, t'One 0f the 1:113:1ch rewards a Nashville actor can hope for is to have Joe Zinn as cast photographer. Joe's photographs are really works of art. We the members of the Tennessean slaft think that Joe is a work of art. And extend our love and thanks to Mr. Joe Zinn.
